dnoyeb
this is really weird.... the account that I created when I installed shows up as an admin in the users gui. however while in the terminal if I try to do su - then enter the password of the admin account I setup at the beginning it just says "sorry" as a response. So, I tried to do su - username and that'll of course work, however it doesn't truly have "root" privilages. So, I searched here and just can't seem to find what i'm missing... being that i'm a total mac newbie, perhaps this is something that is just widely known but i'm at a lost. any help out there? edit: this is a 10.5.1 install of Kalyway. edit second time, just noticed I should have placed this in the "post install" forum... sorry. lord_muad_dib
su lets you log in as root temporarly, if you just need admin proileges use sudo if you wanna use root you must add a password sudo passwd root newpass
dnoyeb
gotcha, thanks. after I started broadening my google search I had stumbled upon this site and was about to just come in here and answer my own question... http://www.spy-hill.com/~myers/help/apple/...eRoot.html#menu funny how soon as I post it , I find my own answer after searching for a while. anyways, thanks for the quick response. now if I could get this asus P5LD2-VM to work with vanilla, i'd be set... does the dreaded reboot over and over. without vanilla, runs great.
