I got the dell 1525 and installed iATKOS 1.0r2 on it... you gotta use the cpus=1 at boot.

The x3100 kext works but you gotta set a hot corner

Bluetooth works natively but after I get the sound working the bluetooth seem to go in and out

The nic is not supported and it dosn't look like anyone is working on it

The dell wifi 1395 isn't supported and it donesn't look like anyone is working on it

The Sound works but you gotta use the patcher ver 1.6

I think I'm gonna retun mine and find something that has a little more support.

I have this same laptop and some of what tin man 0 said is not true because the wireless internet does work. I just installed it and I am writing this from Leopard. To fix it, Go to the "Solutions for wireless problems page" and you will find that their is support for broadcom (A.K.A. Dell) or you can just go directly to http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=23684. Just do exactly as it says and it will work perfectly.

I just bought this laptop yesterday from BestBuy. I really like the specs of it, seems to be a pretty great system however I have run in to some problems with my installation. I have been trying kalyway 10.5.2, I get through the install procedure without a problem. The problem starts upon restart when I am approaching the "welcome" screen, after the white splash screen comes up and loading commences the screen goes blue as if everything is going as planned however it then immediately goes blank. I hooked the laptop up to a monitor and after using Fn+F8 to switch between my LCD and external monitor, I was able to see the welcome screen however once I got to the data migration wizard I got caught in a loop. I tried disabling my NIC as well as virtually every other component but that failed to solve my problem.

Has anyone experienced the same issues? Am I going to be expected to boot this laptop with an external monitor every time?

Anybody with inspiron 1525 and 1440*900 have any issues as in here?

thanks

I have probably installed and then reinstalled OSX on my laptop about 5 times and each time, without installing anything for the graphics card, video plays just fine. The only problem I have is that the video pauses at 14 seconds, and then again at 27 and this is for any video on any website but I believe that this might just be a problem with my flash player because this problem does not occur in videos that are played with quicktime.

As I cannot post anywhere else and this is relevant to a most recent issue I've had (also running a Dell 1525), I will say this does not work for me.

Currently lost in the chasm of attempting to get my 1525's audio / microphone working I've installed so many different "fixes" and appleHDA files my head is spinning off my shoulders. Multiple kernel panics and "starting fresh" later on, I've had no solution to this whatsoever.

I'm compiling a list of things I did to hackintosh my dell, (using a retail 10.6.3 disk) as there are many guides out there currently which tell you to do things which I simply could not do (a.k.a kext helping a bunch of files, yet no one has had my issue of the voodooHDA causing kernel panics like nuts). Upon finding that all of the guides point to this forum, I finally figured I'd join and search around for answers. None.

So, to add to this thread, I see that the OP has supplied an AppleHDA file. I have attempted to use OSX86Tools however every time I attempt to "install" a kext file, the wanted kext files I wish to "install" are grayed out. Using kext helper causes a lovely "Hold your power button to reboot, you need to reboot your computer" consistently.

Not only that, but the only "AppleHDAPatcher" I can find is version 1.2. No one speaks of where to get these supplied files nor report back after (or even if) they have fixed their issues.

I plan to change this as I have a jot list of things I did in step to step order simply because I cannot find it covered anywhere.

I was able to get my Dell Inspiron 1525 working 98% by making a clean install of the original 10.6 retail DVD then installing Chameleon RC4 and using some modified files/kexts I had to look around for. The trackpad on the Inspiron 1525 worked but was giving me problems so I looked at kexts.com and was lucky to find a modified trackpad kext that works great. The only thing I have not fixed yet is sleep and blue tooth. Below is the exact guide I fallowed, but I used a real Mac with Snow Leopard installed and after mounting the "snowleopard_10a432_userdvd.dmg" on my desktop. I went to "go" go to folder "Mac OS X Install DVD/System/Installation/packages/" and then looked for the "InstallOS.mpkg. Then deselecting the not needed languages and printer drivers and changing my hard drive installation to my Dell Inspiron 1525 drive "That I had removed from my laptop to make this installation" and continued with the clean install until finished.

I HAVE THE FULL GUIDE BELOW! I didn't bother with dual boot so good luck If that's what your going for because I haven't tried that yet since I fully functional PC and don't care to dual boot my Inspiron.

<h2 style="margin: 10px 0px 2px; font-family: Georgia,sans-serif,Verdana; font-weight: normal; font-size: 2.2em; clear: both; text-decoration: none; padding-top: 10px; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Retail Install Boot-132 Method</h2>

This guide only covers up to 10.6.1 Please do not update past that unless you know how to proceed.

Alright, I know a lot of you have been waiting for this so here it is.Alright to start off with I have made two boot-132 cd’s.BootSLv3.iso: Contains all of the Extra’s you need to make a quick installDownload BootSLv3-wifi.isoBootSLv3-nowifi.iso: This is for those of you with the “Still Waiting for Root Device” problem.Download BootSLv3-nowifi.isoBootSLv3-NoExtra.iso: Doesn’t have any Extras and will only be able to boot you into the install disk.Download BootSLv3-noextra.isoLet’s get startedStep 1: Make sure you have your copy of Snow Leopard (I would highly suggest purchasing it, it’s a great price for what it offers!)Step 2: Download BootSL.iso and burn it to a CD.Step 3: Put the burned boot cd into your cd-drive and on startup at the “DELL” splash screen press “F12″ now you will be at the boot selection menu, from here wait till your activity light on your cd-drive stops blinking and boot from the disk.Step 4: Eject the boot-132 disk and replace it with your Snow Leopard Disk and again, wait till the activity light stops blinking. Once it’s stopped press “F5″ and the Install Disk will appear. Boot the disk with the boot flags “-v -x” you do this by simply typing -v -x. If you see it at the bottom left corner then you did it right, just hit enter. The disk will take about 5-10 min to load.Step 5: Once in the install disk go to “Tools” from the menu bar and choose “Disk Utility.” Once you’ve gotten into the Disk Utility you have to select your hard drive and click on the partition tab and under the Volume Scheme choose 1 Partition and click “Options” and choose GPT. From this tab choose “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” and name it Macintosh HD and click apply.Step 6: Close Disk Utility and go through the Installer. After it is done restart and again press “F12″ and boot from the Boot-132 disk, this time select the Macintosh HD partition and again boot with the “-v -x” boot flags.Step 7: Now that you’ve booted into your partition open your disk and open the “Post-Install” folder and install “Chameleon 2 RC3″ After this go back to the Post-Install folder and open the Extra folder now highlight and copy everything in the Extra folder. After you have copied all the files open up your “Macintosh HD” and go to the “Extra” folder and paste everything you copied.Step 8: Now Open up the Applications folder from the Post-Install folder and open “Kext Helper” now go to “Local Extensions” and Kext Helper all the files in there.Step 9: Go to the PrefPanes Folder and look below for the Terminal Commands that you need to run to install the trackpad preference pane. After that just double click the VoodooHDA prefpane. (Terminal is located inside the Utilities folder that is in the Applications folder.)Step 10: Open up the Sleep folder and double click the SleepWatcher.dmg and install both packages. After this open the “Install rc.wakeup” and run the commands in terminal. Now quit terminal and open it again and run“sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0“sudo rm /private/var/vm/sleepimage”Step 11: Restart and you will have everything running. You should go to the VoodooHDA prefpane in system preferences and adjust the “Speaker” volume and the #5 Microphone for the mic. After this you can go to the sound prefpane and select the speaker as your output.Step 12: Go to Software update and update to 10.6.1 and you’re good to go all updated. Please post a comment if this guide worked for you.

Also, any questions I will try and answer but remember to upgrade to Chameleon RC4 and find and upgrade that modified "VoodooPS2Controller.kext" so your trackpad works a lot better.

OH, AND DO NOT USE THE BUILT IN SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT OSX SNOW LEO HAS. Just search for the 10.6.1 Combo update to download and install. All other software like iTunes, iPhoto, Quicktime ETC is ok but no system update unless you find out how to do it without screwing up your Snow Leopard Hackintosh.

To answer the OP, I absolutely LOVE the dell 1525 and especially running it with OSX? Absolutely awesome. Great price for what you get, and it runs SMOOTH.

Now chad3000, how did you get your audio working? I don't know if the OP may run into this issue down the line, but I only found solutions for leopard not SnoLeo...

I installed the voodooHDA.kext in system/library/extensions, repaired permissions with "Kext Utility" and the after restart I had to change my sound in preferences to "Speaker (Fixed)" and it works

Also here's the modified "VoodooPS2Controller.kext" for better trackpad support in Snow Leo.

</h2><h2 class="singleh2">Updating to Snow Leopard 10.6.2</h2>

Apple / Mac, Featured, OS X Updates

Note: This update requires you to be running 10.6.1. If you aren’t already, you can download and install the 10.6.1 update from here. And don’t worry, just install and restart when prompted and you’ll be good to go.

Snow Leopard has been available to the public for almost 6 months now, has received 2 updates, and has been running nearly perfectly on the 1525 (and mostly every other hackintosh that could run Leopard). The newest update, 10.6.2, has been out since early November, but a lot of users have yet to make the upgrade. Unlike the Leopard distro days, users are running retail copies of Snow Leopard and thus the upgrade processor is much simpler. So call it old superstition, or sticking to what you know, but users have been hesitant about performing the update. Well that fear of upgrading bears no merit in this case as the 10.6.2 is one of the easiest updates we’ve seen. Instructions follow, and I think you’ll be shocked just how easy the update is.

1) Download the 10.6.2 Combo Update from Apple.com. It’s a fairly large download, 473MB, so grab a cup of coffee in the mean time.

3) Download the new SleepEnabler.kext and unzip it to your Desktop.

2) Install the update from step 1 but sit tight; you do not want to restart you computer yet. Once Installer tells you the update is finished and to restart, launch a new Finder window. Copy the unzipped SleepEnabler.kext from your desktop to /Extra/Extensions/, overwriting your the previous kext.

3) Navigate to /System/Library/Extensions/ and remove IO80211Family.kext.

4) Note: This step is only for users with Celeron Processors. Run this package on your Snow Leopard partition to install a compatible kernel (thanks Joey).

5) Now go ahead and restart.

Sleep is now fixed and everything is 100%.... The sleep fix for Inspiron 1525 is with the other kexts below.

THIS WORKED!

Chad3000 NAILED it! I hope other people with this issue find this.

OK, so, instead of kexthelpering the voodooHDA file as I was before, I simply copy and pasted chad3000's voodooHDA into the above listed location. It then generated the error I took a screenshot of. At this point, I went into kext helper, clicked "kext permissions" and hit run, then rebooted.

I wish people could have seen my face light up when I saw my speaker on my task bar go from grayed out to black!

Then I did exactly what chad3000 said, I went into my sound preferences, and selected speaker(fixed)...VIOLA!!!

Not only THAT! But my microphone works! (internal!) I have not tested the jacks, but this is TOO GREAT!

Chad3000 is the man!

A better way to get sound, Mic and all outputs working on the Dell Inspiron 1525 is to use these three kexts. Place the provided AppleHDA kext in System/Library/Extensions and remove the VoodooHDA kext as it is no longer needed. Then put the other two provided kexts in your Extra Folder. Repair permissions for both folders using the kext utility as usual. WORKS GREAT IN SL 10.6.5.!!!
