I've gotten Kalyway to install on my 600m (PentM 1.6, 1 Gb, etc) but then when i go to boot it it wont boot unless the kaly DVD is in the computer. The only install options i've selected are MBR boot and SSE2 system. Before i install 10.5.1, I format the drive as HFS+ (mbr) and the install. Ive done this twice and each time when i try to boot with just the harddrive in the system it just has a blinking cursor unable to boot. When in put the dvd in it boots fine. Any suggestions? Should I install a bootloader like GRUB? I'm trying to run OSX off a USB hdd, however to get it to boot ive been just putting it in the computer. I was able to do it in 10.4.7 with no problems

i have the exact same problem, someone told me to install it on a guid partition instead of a mbr, however when install on a guid partition the install fails. Could i set the drive as an active partition from inside leopard with diskutility? seeing how i can boot into leopard as long as the install cd acts as a boot loader.

Depending on your system GUID/EFI may work or MBR/Darwin bootloader may work. For an SSE2, you are 'stuck' with Darwin, for newer CPUs EFI may work.

If your install fails on GUID, format/patition your HD in Diskutility as an MBR device instead (click the option button, select the MBR option at the bottom, then create an HFS Journalled partition).

During install you should then select to install the Darwin bootloader. Depending on the distro, you may need to install this by hand (iAtkos release 1 (SSE3) has a Dawin boot loader feature in the 'Utilities' menu).

If after the install you get a blinking cursor at boot, search the forum for 'blinking cursor'.

gamer4lif - would you mind posting your configuration settings during installation. I tried the default settings but when I reboot I get the apple logo and the busy signal and it hangs from there. I've got the same machine as you, using the 10.5.2 DVD, just not sure what settings from the configuration panel during installation I should choose.

Thanks for the help!
