brickbat
Hi. I am new to all this. I need some help. I managed to install the image and get it to boot and I got past the repeating setup wizard. I felt pretty good about it until O realised that network and lan and my graphics don't work. I have a DFI's LANParty UT NF4 Ultra-D mobo with an X2 4200+ processor. I cannot get the onboard sound or LAN to work. The sound is AC97 ALC850 hardware. The network is Marvell yukon gigabit ethernet. My bluetooth, SATA, and USB was recognised perfectly. Also, I have an NVIDIA 7600 graphics card that I need to install the driver for too. My problem is that I think it is trying to run the wrong NVIDIA drivers because it crashes if I don't type -x "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32@85". I went to the kexts folder and saw some Gefore folders there but I didnt know whether they should be deleted or how to delete them. I'm running Ubuntu linux on another drive until I can get Leopard to work 100%. Please, I need some detailed instructions about what to do next to get these things working. MarcoHeykant
Hey, i'm running the exact same setup as you (what are the odds), and in my case the nvinject.kext solved the problem of videocard. It set up the correct resolution and networking / sound worked out of the box. which dvd release did you use? I'm using a mac dvd with ToH kernel, and just followed the installer, didn't need any real patching. Ciao bb You might find the answers you need in this thread. As was already mentioned networking and sound should work right out of the box. cgsheen
Please, I need some detailed instructions about what to do next to get these things working. I'd do a fresh re-install. The ALC850 should work out of the box. I'm not sure about the LAN adapter - if you think it's causing install problems, DISABLE it in the BIOS and work on it AFTER you get OSx86 up and running. (better yet, get a cheap Realtek RTL8139 (10/100) or RTL8169 (gigabit) PCI LAN card - supported out of the box...) I have a 7600GS PCIe working perfectly using NVinject 0.1.3. If I remember correctly "Zephyroth's Universal Installer for nvidia" breaks it. Boot off the DVD and get to the first Graphical Installation screen Use the Disk Utility to partition your HD or erase and reformat your existing install partition (re-partitioning is safer - it assures a "clean" re-install) While in the Disk Utility make note of the DISK and PARTITION numbers of your install partition Continue with the standard OSX install (if it seems to stop at "about a minute left": hit the reset button or power switch and restart the computer. Boot off the DVD again, start the install again without using the Disk Utility, select the same install disk you chose before, It'll go through the install again - much faster - and chances are it'll complete this time without issue) It'll want to reboot - let it try If it won't boot off the HD, you'll have to follow the steps to make the drive bootable: (boot off the DVD again, press F8, and enter "-s" & hit Enter (boots into single user) The boot process will end up waiting at a "command prompt" - TYPE this: fdisk -e /dev/rdiskX (replace the "X" with the disk number you noted in Disk Utility) hit Enter update (hit Enter) f x (replace the "x" with the partition number from above) hit Enter w (Enter) q (Enter) reboot (Enter) Remove the DVD - it should boot off the HD. If it does and you let it go, it'll end in a "kernel panic" because of the geforce stuff (Zephyroth built this SPECIFICALLY for an nvidia 8800GT - if that's not you, kernel panic...) When it boots off the HD, you need to boot in "safe" mode. While it's "counting down", hit Enter and then type "-x" and hit Enter. It'll now boot in safe mode and bypass the video stuff. It'll go through the normal start-up stuff. If it hangs, you have other problems. If it's good, you should get to the initial setup screens - go through these to get into the Desktop. If you're not 100% sure about your LAN card, tell it you DON'T have an internet connection. You want to get to the desktop so you can delete all the geforce .kexts and the "nv*.*" .kexts - this step is well known and documented. The Zephyroth Wiki has the info if you can't find it in the thread. Once these .kexts are permenantly deleted, you can boot for real. Restart the computer, it'll boot to "regular" mode and you can run NVinject to load the proper .kexts for the 7600. At this point you should have working sound and the video should also be working with QE/CI. Your next best friend will be "Marvin's AMD Utility" - get it and keep it handy! Run it whenever you add software or updates. Remember, most everything is written for Intel - not AMD. Can't help you with the Marvel LAN - but there are plenty of posts in the thread - do some reading! Best of luck (I mean that both ways: I hope it works for you AND I know from my own experience that Zephyroth DOESN'T work in all cases! I've tried to get it working on 6 different AMD motherboards - 2 are working solidly and I'm nearing getting it working properly on a 3rd... The other 3 were failures - even after MULTIPLE attempts) Patience is the key to joy...
