Coz I do this all the time on PC. thought MAC must be able to do the same thing...

If I just need to leave for 5 min, but don't want others see my stuff, I can sign off the current user. whatever program should still be running in the background. In Windows you just press WIN+L to sign off (or call it "lock the computer") but on MAC when I try to sign off, it asks me if I want to quit all programs. No I don't. I just want "lock" it for a few minutes. :D

Does MAC do that? or this "lock" is exclusively PC thing?

BTW: I know I can use screensaver password. But I just wonder if MAC is able to do that very function. ;)

thanks justvisiting, otherwise westwaerts was going to lead him back to XP!! :hysterical:

SticMAN

system preferences -> accounts -> "login options" (below list of user names) -> "enable fast user switching"
I enabled this option. but when I tried to sign off. It asks me "are you sure you want quit firefox and sign off?" I chose no, "firefox disabled signing off"...

Well, that's what signing off means, just like on Windows. If you don't want to sign off, enable Fast User Switching. After doing that, you should see an icon, or your name in the top right of your screen. Click on that, then in the pop-up select Login Screen (or whatever it is in English). This is the same as locking your screen on Windows, which is what you want.
