I am having so many problems with this freaking inspiron 1720 and the iAtkos v1.0i. I can install it successfully, but i always get a different error message when booting up. I tried following the guide kristoff had , after installing it and not being able to boot. Once I unplugged my power cord i saw the welcome screen for OS X. I was actually in it for a couple minutes but nothing was working, so i though it was practically pointless. I also couldnt apply the nice little lavendar background that really caught my attention, (lol its not a biggy although i really like it.). My wireless was not working, so i decided to just go ahead and format the drive again and just wait for some help. Does anyone have a inspiron 1720 and have leopard successfully installed on it? Any help would be appreciated.

Inspiron 1720

Core 2 Duo T7300-2.0GHz

2GB Ram

160 SATA HDD

nVidia 8600mGT

Dell Wireless 1390

Sigmatel STAC (92xx) ( i don't know the exact model, and am too lazy too look up but thats not too important to worry about cause there are plenty of threads that help with getting the sound working.)

All i really want is to just be able to boot into OS X.

dude.. give up and get a mac. that is what i did after a few tries with my dell 1720. trying to get osx to run on my dell 1720 consumed my life. i didn't eat, sleep, work. so one day i finally just got up, walk away from the dell, and drove myself to the local apple store. i'm a much happier person now.

i'd love to get up and get myself a mac, but im only a sophomore in high school, and have no job. now i actually have leopard running, but i dont completely understand how this driver situation works. i looked over the guide in the genius bar for dells, but i don't really understand it. if anyone can help me or explain to me the driver issues that would be great.

i know saying something like this on this forum will get me in trouble but.. keep that laptop, if you cant get leopard working, no biggy. That is an awesome laptop and it would be pointless to get a mac.. Windows has everything you need.. as cool as it is to get into leopard on a pc. After all if ppl with Windows needed leopard.. there would be a way to use leopard on PC legitamately... but ppl with mac need xp that is why there is multiple legit ways to use windows on a mac which many apple users take advantage of.

Now im not dissing mac, there are certainly ppl in which mac has more programs and more use for them. There are also ppl who legitamately like leopard more... im not gonna lie, i think it is sweet.. that is why i have it on 2 pc's.. but my point is dont listen to that guy and by a 2.5k$ laptop when you already have that 1.5k$ laptop.

Back to the question you asked... did you try installing Tiger? i have an Inspiron e1705 which is certainly alot different but i had not much luck with any distributions of leopard but most tiger's worked for me.

i have an inspiron 1720 with leopard 10.5.1 installed on it =D and i only had a few problems installing the OSX and setting the boot loader but after that all ran just fine, try using ur disk in ata instead of ich, and turn off the flash cache thing of the hard drive in the bios. and cant get the sound working!! >.< any ideas?? i know the wireless wont work.

Same laptop and I used Kaliway 10.5.1 +Kaliway combo update+Kaliway kernel update boot very cool but you need to search in others post about specific kexts for your hardware (sound, Display, Network)Enjoy!!have a look at thishttp://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...ables#XPS_M1730

ROFL... I know this is an ancient post but I had to comment on this - this is totally me right now. Wrestling w/my 1720 day and night trying to get OSX on there... infuriating! I'm going to give this a shot [http://lifehacker.com/5360150/install-snow-leopard-on-your-hackintosh-pc-no-hacking-required#] and then give up for good if that doesn't work (or drive myself to the apple store if I can convince myself to spend the $).

Anyhow - thanks for sharing geng... glad to know I'm not the only one crying late at night at my 1720.

@ Chris Emerson - I`m running the new iAtkos S3 v2 on my 1720 here and it`s been great so far. I am going to do a write up on the build but for now if you still have the Inspiron 1720 then go grab iAtkos S3 v2, perform a regular boot as it has not fallen over yet. Keep all default options but add broadcom wireless (if you have it instead of the intel wlan card), broadcom ethernet, RTC 32 (change from default RTC in options list) and perform install... Like i say i`m going to write it up in more detail but hopefully the above will get you going.

Cheers,
