Eric.C
Which one is faster? I already know the Intel is better for OS X, but when running Windows, which is faster?
djXtreme
couldnt find any benchmarks for the 2.0 intel, but the .1.8 is only slightly behind the 5000x2. Personally I'd plump for the Intel, just for Hack purposes.
Eric.C
and then I assume that the E4500 would be much faster than the 5000+?
altcomputing
Just to say: E2140 i have managed to overclock to 2666 with Stock Cooling, it goes 3000MHz without problem, but cooling needs to be replaced with a better one. So there's a lot more power in it than you may think. Go buy Intel.
netkas
5000+ is faster then non-oc 2180 for sure....but 2180 can run vanilla osx kernel

Deviant0ne
I bought a 2140 to upgrade my Celeron 420-L and I have had nothing but problems since installing it. I wasn't able to install a single distro of OS X (problem outlined here and here), though the idea of dual core was appealing. I have since downgraded my processor back to the Celeron just to get my hack back online... I would say go for the Intel, but be careful with hardware... You may end up like me with a nice dual core processor sitting idle in a closet waiting for a new OS X distro.
Synaesthesia
That's really surprising, but it really sucks for you! Sorry man! I say surprising because so many people have a similar or same processor working fine. Well, I hope you find your AppleACPI...
Kane Adams
Thanks for the heads up on the 2140.
