I have recently installed Kalyway 10.5.1 on my Dell 8300 and it seems to be 100% working with no problems running on the "tohkernel".

I was having trouble booting, but realized that it was trying to boot form the standard "vanilla" (mach_kernel) and it would immediately reboot. I edited "com.apple.Boot.plist" to boot from "tohkernel" and the system booted the first time.

I let the system update as normal, reboot and it performed perfectly; no problems with updating at all.

My question is that I was under the impression that system software updates wouldn't work correctly unless you were running the "vanilla" kernel..... is that true??

Also it is my understanding that a Pentium 4 will not boot from the "vanilla" kernel..... is that true?? Thank you very, very much. Great job and I am seriously pleased!!

Updates will install no matter what kernel you are using or whether Intel or AMD CPU. The difference being that if the vanilla kernel was updated, using EFI and a supported CPU, the new vanilla kernl would still work. Since your boot.plist file starts the Toh kernel even after the update you are using that kernel still.

Yes.

Can I ask how you got it to start installing. Everytime I load up the 10.5.2 or 10.5.1 kalyway dvd it starts and then just reboots. Did that happen to you. I was trying to enter tohkernel/sleepkernel but for some reason it would not accept those. How did you change the bootlist file and what did you put in it to force it recognize tohkernel(I also noticed it seems to always want to boot mach_kernel). Thanks ahead of time.
