Commodore-Freak
I've recently downloaded the MacOS 10.5.1 Kalyway image and I am trying to install it onto an IDE harddrive via a Sata2-DVD-Rom. I've got a VIA PT880 Pro Chipset. The Wiki says that 10.5.0 should work fine with it, so I was hoping 10.5.1 could handle it, to. But I have "Still waiting for root device" issues. Have been trying different boot options like setting the root device manually, but nothing helped. Btw. the Darwin Loader said it found the bootable media on hd111,0. Somehow weird... Cohen The Barbarian
I've tried installing to a regular PATA drive (from a SATA DVD drive with Kalyway 10.5.1) and the installer works, but on restart the system will not boot from the PATA drive. The bootloader starts to load the system and then stops with the "Waiting for root device" error. So far I've only had luck booting from SATA hard drives...all my Leopard machines use SATA for the system, with PATA drives as Data/backup drives. See if you can borrow a SATA HD and try that Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/78918-installing-from-sata-dvd-onto-ide-hdd/#findComment-559052 Share on other sites
Commodore-Freak
I've already bought a SATA HDD because I'm running out of space, should be there tomorrow. But isn't this "Still waiting from root device" on DVD boot rather a problem with the DVD drive?
