They are going to swallow Darwine.... in less than 6 months OSX86 will be running 80% of the major windoze apps.... No more expensive Windoze licensing fees for corporate, windoze app developers only have to do some tweaking to increase their customer base by 16%, Macs will run windows apps full speed, unemulated, without needing WindozeXP OR Vista installed!

we might see the indroduction of C# and a .NET implementation, but i find it a bit silly for apple to support windows apps, if apple can increase it's market share enough, then all the windows apps will be ported over. i dont think having windows apps run on OSX is important for apple as their elegant design policy and ease of use ideals wont hold up when they have windows stuff running. if anything i think this will be a boon for Apple and the linux crowd, now that people will think of using OSX more and the crackers will be using it too, i think darwin and the driverbase will expand. Eventually if X.org and gnome-kde-blackbox teams dont get their act together they may loose out to OSX and possibly the new Windows Vista. but i doubt that vista will take over.

it's kinda funny that if microsoft had it's act together a while back, they would be able to cement their position as the top cat in desktops, even if they forced a complete re-write of all windows software in a major change to the OS, which i hope they will soon, they will refresh the tide pool of {censored} software that needs hacks & cracks in the windows sourcecode to make it work (i'm referring to the small part of windows sourcecode that was leaked a while back, it had hacks to make certain legacy software work) and this shouldnt be the case. The OS should be Rock-solid to start with and the apps should be re-written to work.

I just thought I would add my 2 cents...

In regard to Spyware,

Spyware is designed by people to target the biggest market share computer uses. It’s designed for people who don't know or think they know about PC's. That’s how they make their money. Stupid people who think "Yay, I won a free prize!!!, and all i need to do is click on the picture" A few days later "Yes hello, My computer is {censored} I want you to come over now and fix it... you sold me a computer that runs like cr@p and keeps popping up windows of people having sex!" (Sorry I deal with this crud everyday)

The biggest issue is that they can build a better OS, but then they always build a bigger idiot...

It just does not make money cense to put all the R&D to build a spyware program for a market audiance that have smarts enough NOT to click on the "you have won a free prize" banner and even if they did they would know how to remove the verminous rubbish.

I am not saying that either OS is better then the next. They all have pro's and con's. Admittedly I prefer osx over windows but hay

Anyway it always comes down to money and if someone can make a buck they will.

(Sad world we live in isn't it)

Anyway that’s my rant for today... Time to take some vallum...

Exactly, Apple knows they cannot support all the new MS APIs. .NET was bad enough, but XNA is much worse. And MS knows it, they're trying to wedge out Java and OpenGL to make OS X porting next to impossible. After all, if that hot new game has to run in a compatibility mode to be easy to port to OS X, what game developer is going to do a dual-release.

Apple is taking this tact to put MS in a position where their developers will tear down the OpenGL lockout in Vista through sheer demand. If they can do that, then developers will be able to port Vista apps to OS X as cleanly as it is to port a XP app.

But, if you throw something like WINE into the mix, developers won't realize when they're tapping API's Apple can't support until it's too late, too short, and developers won't have a choice to tell users but to install Windows/VirtualPC. And, that, is the single killer of OS X in standalone form.

The biggest issue is that they can build a better OS, but then they always build a bigger idiot...

and we'll "build better legislation" to ban them from owning an ABN here in australia, or ban them from the relevant thingy in $YOURCOUNTRYNAME.

To #1:

Have you got any knowledge at all ? Common sense maybe ?

Moving to the X86 platform *IN NO WAY* means that running windows binaries will be a charm. You obviously run Windows and know next to nothing about it or else you would have known that the clone of Unix -Linux has for YEARS on end tried to get a good emulator (and are doing fairly well) with wine...

Unfortunatly I'm off for class so I have no time to explain this (and it seems like you'd need quite a bit of explanation). The only reason for rosetta being made that quick is that apple of course have all the source code for their PPC system. And I can tell you that MS ain't going to hand over the source to apple so they can steal customers :(

well my $yourcountryname = Australia too... Our backwards government has tried that but unfortunately shell companies are easily bought overseas where there is no legislation regarding spam/ spyware... I wish it was that easy :)...

Also they are two busy worrying about homeland security calling people 'mate' then to worry about spyware :(...

:everything said in this reply is said in a lighthearted tone:

shell companies are easily bought overseas

That whole idea of malware-as-a-business-plan is getting old, now that its illegal it makes the investors shy, usually...

And yeah, the windows api is astoundingly easy to emulate, it's simple and logically designed, like most programs. providing all the trash and bloatware hacks that certain programs expect is whats tripping the poor wine guys out. then hacking their code to provide different behavior to diff apps so that they run. plus they are doing all this without getting sued for some nondescript intellectual property civil suit from the developers & copyright holders of the work in question; microsoft.

cheers to the wine team

Hmm...

the clone of Unix -Linux

QUOTE:

You're joking right?

SCO, payed by M$, tried to say the same in a tribunal, look them now.

Linux is an entire OS, that was in the begining based (based, not copied) on Unix but not a clone.

This looks familiar, since MacOS is "based" of BSD, right?
