PanterA
anyone try these distros on laptops? Yep, Kalyway's DVD works almost perfectly on my Toshiba Satellite. Used to run JaS 10.4.8, updated yesterday, works bloody great. Mayakovski
The uphuck 10.5.1 release installed fine, but would only boot if the DVD was in the drive, and would not recognize my NIC. THe Kalyway 10.5.1, works and boots perfectly. Dell Optiplex 170L. S.SubZero
anyone try these distros on laptops? iATKOS on my Dell Inspiron E1705. I have to use "cpus=1" at boot (GRRR), Sleep probably doesn't work, no SpeedStep, no power management. I haven't checked wireless. Broadcom 440x works, nVidia 7900GS Go works, external USB hard drive works, and it recognizes my gamepad too. It's definitely usable but without that second core I feel so emasculated. LoadStar
anyone try these distros on laptops? Running iATKOS on a Latitude D830 w/NVS 140M graphics. As long as you read the directions carefully (for instance, during the darwin_boot script where they say to type 1 when you want to select drive0) it is amazingly smooth to install... and the only tweaks that they make to the theme are to the "About This Mac" window, which I respect, and a marked change over Kalyway. Post install, problems I've noted with my laptop: - I did have to install the video kexts from 10.5.2 before I could put NVinject on, because the NVS 140M is a G84 GPU, which isn't fully supported under 10.5.1. - Audio also didn't work off the bat either, still working on that one. - Power management doesn't seem to be aware that it's a laptop (no alternate choices for battery/AC power management, and no battery icon in the menubar). Haven't begun to look into that one yet. - System doesn't shut down... it goes to a black screen and just sits there until I force it off. Haven't looked into this one either. Alessandro17
I voted for iATKOS, but now, after trying Kalyway, I'd change my vote if I could.
