Disk Utility error installing OSx86

When installing OSx86 on a partition, the Disk Utility always gives the same error when I'm trying to erase the partition (format it to Mac OS filesystem). I've tried it in many ways but the problem remains the same: both Tiger and Leopard (tried three different dvd images) cannot format the partition successfully. However Leopard made an effort to format and it even seemed like he succeeded but after the dvd check, it couldn't copy any files.

Any piece of advice would be appreciated.
