ZhangHeng
Er, I don't know whether I should call it Partion or Slice, so let me call it partition. My computer is a Lenovo(former IBM) ThinkPad. There were three partition on the disk. fist one, actived, primary, ntfs, named IBM_PRELOAD. second one, extended, with a logical disk formated with ntfs fs in it, named DOC. third one, hidden, primary, fat32, named IBM_SERVICE. I created a primary partition named Leopard formated with fat32 fs between the IBM_PRELOAD and the extended. Then, I booted the computer with ToH Leopard rc2. The IBM_PRELOAD partition, DOC and Fat32 partition were mounted automaticly. But the hidden partition (IBM_SERVICE) wasn't. It named disk0s4 in the /dev and disk utility. I erased the Fat32 partition, but after the operation ended, the partition was named disk0s3 in the disk utility. I mount the disk0s3 in terminal, It said error sup**(I've forgotten the word) block, and failed to mount. I formated the partition in windows Xp with ntfs fs, but the Leopard still called it disk0s3, and it could not be mounted. Is there any thing wrong? the OS partition should be in begining of the disk?

You can put it on any partition you want as long as it can be installed on it. disk0s3 will still be called that no matter how many times you try to re-partition it because of the other partitons. Because of the fact that those 2 partitions are named IBM_ that tells me that those were partitions created from the factory and they are very un-needed. Don't worry about which partitons mount and which ones dont. Just make sure that you partition a drive for Mac OS and that that one does mount. ***Also to check what is on the 2 IBM partitions go into windows and with Computer Management console just give those drives drive letters. Thanks! I mean, er... I created a primary partition between a primary and a extended. The OSX mounted all the partition automatically. I use disk utility to erase the partition which I created. Then, the OSX cannot mounted it. I just want to install OSX on that partition. I don't want to break the Windows. en
razorbladex401
if it's not remounting after the partitioning in disk utility try to open up terminal and do: > diskutil list This should give you a list of partitions on the drive. >diskutil mount /dev/partition Where I said partition just write what the output says for the partition you want to install OSX on. Hopefully that makes sense.....I'm not at home right now so I can't give you screenshots. If you can't get it when I get home I'll try to post screen shots for you. Hopefully that makes sense.....I'm not at home right now so I can't give you screenshots. If you can't get it when I get home I'll try to post screen shots for you. Thanks for your advice. I did something following. I created a partition formated to ntfs between the first primary partition and the extended. +---------------------+------------+------------------------+------------+ |Primary..............|Primary.....|+--Extended------------+|Primary.....| |NTFS 16GB............|NTFS 8GB....||Logical NTFS 27GB.....||FAT32 Hidden| |IBM_PRELOAD..........|Leopard.....||Documents.............||IBM_SERVICE.| |Original on the disk.|New created.||Original on the disk..||Original....| |.....................|............|+----------------------+|............| +---------------------+------------+------------------------+------------+ I booted my computer with ToH RC2. All the partition were mounted in /Volumes automaticly, except the last hidden one. The Leopard partition (see above) named disk0s4 in /dev. And it listed all the partition mounted in the Diskutility. IBM_PRELOAD disk0s3 (the hidden fat32 one) Leopard (New created) Documents I erased the Leopard partition in Diskutility to a journal Apple fs (I chose Chinese as the language, so I don't know the name of the Apple fs in English). And I filled the label with Leopard. It said "Unmount ... "Erase ... "Mount disk ..." Then, it changed into disk0s4 in the partition list on the left side of Diskutility. I noteced that, it said "Mount point: -, Type: Windows NT file system, ...". I quite the Diskutility and open the terminal. I typed in "diskutil mount /dev/disk0s4". It said ".....error 35", and the partition was not mounted. I created a directory named mnt in /Volumes. Then, I typed in "mount /dev/disk0s4 /Volumes/mnt". It said "Incorrect super block", and the partition was not mounted yet. But Windows could assign a letter to it, and it seemed nothing happened to the partition in Windows. I formated the partition in Paragon Partition Manager with FAT32 or Ext3 or other, no work. In fact, if I erase the first partition of the disk (IBM_PRELOAD in above map), it would be okay. (I installed Tiger on the first partition before.) But no way on the second one. I will give up. The CPU and VGA Card of my computer dose not suit for Leopard. I just wanted to have a try. Thanks very much.
