How to make a disk(flat image) you can dd?

Hello,

I've seen some downloads on TBP etc. with 'disk images'(flat image). You can 'dd' that to your own disk.

My question is, how can I make a 'disk' like that so I can 'dd' it to my own harddrive. (I've installed Leopard in vmware atm, and I would like to make it a 'disk image' so I can reinstall it fast).

Thanks

What you do is in VMware, you set up everything as you want it in the img and shut down the virtual machine. Then, using qemu-img you convert your VMware VMDK disk file with Leopard on it into the standard IMG format used by the flat images. See the instructions on this page:

As the page says, its not guaranteed to make a bootable image but its definitely worth a try!
