can't mount or erase..help

my mobo is asus p5ld2, cpu intel D805 dual core ovk@3.2GHz, 2G ram, HDD Seagate 320G Sata2, dvd-rw ASUS lightcribe sata interface, OS Win Vista

i've got uphuck 10.4.9 v1.4i r2 install disk

i've booted from the install disk without a problem and from diskutil tried to erase a partition (formated from windows to FAT32) to make it HFS+ but it doesn't let saing that i don't have the privilege, but i am root

from bios my HDD is on standard IDE

 

can some one pls help
