NoSmokingBandit
I followed a guide to upgrade (which i cant find now since i cant access firefox's history in osx) that instructed me to backup a couple of kexts and install the 10.4.11 upgrade (from the dmg, not the software update) then put all the kexts back in, repair permissions, and reboot. Now i have a kernel panic that has something to do with power management i think (ill write down what it says here in a minute) and wont load up at all. Is there a way to fix this? I have MacDrive so i can access files and change stuff around a bit (i assume ill have to boot into the install disc and repair permissions after changing anything, right?) but im not sure what got messed up. I dont care if i have to revert it back to 10.4.10 i just dont want to have to start from scratch again. Too much work. Anyway, thanks for reading. NoSmokingBandit
ok, so heres what happens. It goes along as usual then i get the output: " Debugger Called <Panic> Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) " Then theres a bunch of numbers in a "#X######" format followed by: " Backtrace Terminated-Invalid frame pointer 0x0 Kernel loadable modules in acktrace (with dependencies): com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement(1.6.7)@0x1faf700 Kernel version: Darwin kernel version 8.9.1 " followed byt the date and maker of the kernel. Thats all the stuff i thought may be relevant, but if theres something else let me know and ill write it down.
LS8
What kexts did you backup? Did you also backup kernel? Are you using PC EFI? Vanilla or patched kernel? Try this upgrade howto: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=75406

But 8.9.1 Kernel ?????????? You have a SSE2 CPU orw?
NoSmokingBandit
The guide i followed was similar to the one ls8 posted but he only instructed to back up AppleSMBIOS.kext, AppleACPIPlatform.kext, and whatever video driver i used (in my case it was titan). Apparently theres alot more i needed to keep... My processor is sse2 only, riws. And i wasnt using pc-efi. The guide i read must have been terrible, the one linked to up there^ is a whole lot better. So can i fix this or should i just start over?
