jsmith81
Im interested in finding an Intel chipped motherboard that is fully supported by OSX 10.5.1, EFI and Vanilla Kernel without any patching for audio, sata, lan or anyting else. All suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76053-motherboard-suggestions/ Share on other sites
Scrizz
I don't think there are any boards that DO NOT need patching. The Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 works great w/efi and leo, all that it needs is audio patch, which can be found easily Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/76053-motherboard-suggestions/#findComment-538122 Share on other sites
obajoba
Gigabyte boards seem to have the best bang for the buck, if you don't need hardware RAID you can get a P35-DS3L for less than $100 and the only patch you will need is for audio. ~pcwiz
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P is also good. IDE has some problems, RAID doesn't work, and shutdown and restart have some issues but other than that, its good bang for the buck and works nicely. If you get this Mobo use social swimmer's excellent DS3P installation guide, PC-EFI instructions included. Only sound requires patching. The Intel Bad Axe 2 only requires a sound patch and works with Leopard and EFI but its overpriced and is based on the old 975 chipset that will not support upcoming processors. The ASUS P5W DH Deluxe is also a good motherboard and requires not much patching but it has the same problem as the Bad Axe 2, its chipset is too old and its overpriced. Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 is also a very good motherboard and only requires a sound patch. The features are minimal but its a very cheap motherboard that has good functionality. jsmith81
It looks like the Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 is the way to go. Just one more question, after patching the audio are all audio features available (surround, mic, audio in, SPDIF) Thank you all for your help. ~pcwiz
I saw in a thread that it has "100% audio functionality" but I'm not sure if that includes Surround and S/PDIF but maybe...In any case, is surround and S/PDIF critical to you? Most motherboards don't work with S/PDIF and surround is another not-sure thing.
