I have a Dell Dimension B110 that ran out of the box with JAS 10.4.8. I did have to find a network card off of ebay that cost about $6.00. I later added a 256 mb PNY FX5500 video card which I bought off of ebay for $45.

My cheapo Dell runs just as fast as my Dual 1.8 mac pro g5. It's stable enough to do the work that I do on my G5. :P

Thanks for the responses...

I currently have a Dimension 4700 running uphuck 10.4.9, which I love. I was looking to buy another computer with a 20" or 22" LCD and wanted advice on the new Dell or Compaq machines. Which one would be the best fit for Jas or uphuck. Also, one that might make for an easy transition to Leopard.

HOW DID YOU DO THAT?

I installed Jas on my B110 but it kept restarting after reinstallation. Here are my specs:

Pentium 4 3.0 512 MB Cache. No SSE3.

768 MB RAM PC 3200

Everything else is the same. I added an NVidia 5200.

Is it possible to install 10.5.5 as well?

i have a hp compaq nc6220 and all was working out of the box with iDeneb 10.5.5 (just no QE and CI but i can live without)

also my hp dv9780ez just misses the f****** 4965agn but fixed with usb Zyxel nwg210n (ralink driver)

EDIT: sorry, about my dv9780ez, there are more details on my signature...

Lenovo X60(s)

Working almost completely out of box, details below (used Leo4all v2 (10.5.2):

Video card works including QE/CI (Intel GMA950). Need to check Intel GMA950 driver during installation.

Had to install manually AppleAzaliaAudio.kext for sound after system install.

Wireless didn't work (it was Intel 3945 based), however it is possible to get an X60 with Atheros based wireless which works well.

PCMCIA / Cardbus slot works after installing .kext found somewhere in the hardware section of the forums.

Battery meter and saving supported after installing power management .kext

Bluetooth worked out of box.

Keyboard and trackpoint work OOB unless you install vanilla kernel.

Issues encountered (after installing all necessary .kexts):

- display mirroring not working, ends up with blue background with colorful lines on both displays

- cannot boot computer with external display plugged in (external display works ok in extended desktop mode after bootup)

- no recording capabilities on built in sound chip, need to use usb sound card for recording

- upgrading to 10.5.5/6 requires some workarounds, particular software updates work well (except combined system ones)

- sleep requires some fiddling to work (normally, the laptop will display security error while waking up from sleep)

- iDVD won't burn self made DVD's usually saying DVD drive is not supported,

however it is possible to save project to image and burn it using Disk Utility).

- audible latency when recording software instruments played on keyboard in Garageband '08.

Real instrument tracks record well.

Despite the above, it worked really well as a Hackintosh and was my primary 'Mac' for month and a half.

Then I bought the real one. :-)

I've had almost the same success getting iATKOS 10.5.5 running, but I've not been able to get the sound working. Would you mind sharing the details of how you manually installed AppleAzaliaAudio.kext? I tried a few things other people posted here a while back and only managed to have to reinstall. I also just placed my order for an Atheros-based network card and have high hopes for my Hackintosh!

Hello all, my first post here....

I installed iPC 10.5.6 without a hitch on my x60 tablet. I got the basics going, Video (hardware accel), Audio, mouse pointer, and WiFi. I'm trying to get my SD card reader but that's proving to be a bit of a pain. Let me know if anyone needs more info on installing iPC 10.5.6.
