Hi all,

I've read many advices and topics, the broadcom 57xx driver seems to be quite a problem with various results. Unfortunately a lot of good threads (that started out as good) got polluted with crybabies that have no patience whatsoever...

I've found topics were people clame to have a OS X version working on a Dell Optiplex 745 (which has the broadcom 5754) but unfortunately the solution is never posted...

I have a detected NIC that has only zero's as a MAC address. Setting it with ifconfig doesn't work. (ioctl SIOCAIFADDR: network is down). The driver isn't capable of resetting and then enabling the NIC..

The things I have working:

Single display (using Natit v0.2 dual or with the NVinject) on a GeForce 6200 TurboCache (256 MB - PCI-e)

(not that much, but hey, if the network works, that's enough for me).

I hope someone will post a solution for this broadcom issue that they got working...

Thanks in advance,

Br.

I've got a Dell Precision 390 and I got the same card as you. With the card, also the same problems.

I got to initialise it with AppleBCM5751Ethernet.kext+Edit Info.plist. But ifconfig cannot bring up the interface.

I saw a guy in the forums trying to redevelop the driver and I guess that his idea is one of the best solutions since the original driver doesn't seem to work for the 5754 and it's like a pain in the ... for the other models.

I'd like to post more data but now I don't have the exact errors with me.

I just got an update from someone that had the same broadcom NIC. He couldn't get it to work with cisco devices. When he used a linksys (that doesn't seem to care about zero's in the MAC address) he had a working network connection. At work we only have cisco switches. So I have to get me a linksys or a supported NIC.

Or wait for that dude that's gonna try to develop a proper driver.

Hmmm, when I come to think of it: is there a "NDIS-wrapper" port for OS X?

I don't know if it's because the CISCO switchs (We also have cisco in the office). But the ifconfig says "NO" when I try to bring up the interface, and It should mind if there is a cable or not.

Now I have problems with an Intel card because the cisco. The card cannot detect the cable. But I get IP and full speed conectivity except that the interface appears to be down. I plug it wherever else and it detects the cable.

Does Apple has something agains Cisco? :D

Hi there.

I'm building a Dell 745 with 10.5.1 (Kalyway). I have the basic system installed, no ethernet, audio or video (basic is OK).

The Ethernet card is my big hurdle, please post any results. I am looking at different releases, which may have support.

I'm an IT professional, used to UNIX/Cisco. I find the randomness and misinformation in this site quite distracting :-(

If I can help with this problem I will.

join the club mate... Too many crybabies that spend a lot of time and money to get the ultimate PC/laptop that runs OS X, and still complain. Why don't they spend a bit more and get the genuine stuff... I for instance can't really afford the real deal. The hardware at work is restricted to PC's. I'm just eager to get a new OS installed, but without a working network connection, it's no good at all...

I'm gonna try iATKOS on a Latitude D830 soon.

With the optiplex 745, I think there's no alternative but to plug in another NIC...

Well, I'm happy to say I've got iATKOS 1.0i R2 running on my Dell Optiplex 745!

I'm not running the stock kernel (simply didn't boot) but EFI seems to work (that's what I selected, but I can't find traces of it anywhere??). (Pentium D 820)

The integrated Broadcom NIC simply doesn't work. I had an old Intel Pro NIC (8255x) that I got working with the AppleIntel8255x.kext that can be found on the forum.

Audio worked out of the box, although System Profiler says there's no builtin audio.

The hardest part was getting my Geforce 6200 TurboCache (PCIe) running with dual screens.

I finally found the NVInstallerV.31.pkg also somewhere on this forum. This package installs the 10.5.2 nVidia drivers and the OpenGL Framework. It also installed the NVinject 0.2.1 (256MB RAM) kext. I edited the NVCAP values of this kext with the Property List Editor from the Xcode tools to:

04000000 00000d00 02000000 00000007 00000000

Remember to delete all caches (not just /System/Library/Extensions.mkext, but also /System/Library/Extensions/Caches and /System/Library/Caches) and then boot with the -f flag to force reloading of the kexts. After that step, I had two displays (one on VGA and the other via a DVI-VGA adaptor) with QE/CI support.

Should you need more info about device ID's that work on this Optiplex 745, send me a PM.

I also got the same iATKOS running on a Dell Latitude D830. nVidia Quadro NVS 140M works at 1920x1200 with QE/CI enabled. Sound also works (kinda) on the Sigmatel 9205. NIC (broadcom) doesn't work. Intel Pro 4965AGN also doesn't work. I'm waiting for a Dell Wireless 1390 card. That should be detected as a native airport card. When I've got that working. I'll post the details. Bluetooth also works BTW.

Two Optiplex that I converted to hackintoshes at my work:

one 745 with Leopard, it has Intel GMA video card (no QE/CI) and same NIc doesn't work with any of the AppleBCM5751.kext, I installed a Realtek 8139 card, EFI works no vanilla kernel because of Pentium D

the other is a 620 with GMA 950 (with QE/CI) and with working Broadcom NIc (don't remember which model).

My Dell lappy has a Broadcom 5906 NIC (not working with any of the kext nor any patch) but soon will have an original Mac Pro wireless card (Broadcom 43xx).

How can I be sure whether I'm running with the stock kernel or not? I've read about an EFI listing with diskutil in terminal, but EFI is just EFI. If (for some reason) I'm able to run the stock kernel, I should be able to update anyway?

this is a uname from my Optiplex:

uname -v
Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Fri Nov 16 14:50:43 SCT 2007; made by ToH:xnu-1228.0.2~1/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386

This is clearly not a stock kernel. My D830 on the other hand shows this:

Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0: Wed Oct 31 17:56:22 PDT 2007; root:xnu-1228.0.2~1/RELEASE_I386

This uname listing suggests to me that I'm running the stock kernel on my Latitude D830. Can someone verify this for me please?

Hello everyone,

I manage to install JaS 10.5.4 on a OptiPlex 745, but no audio. I had issues with the Network card as well, but I installed a intel pci to get around the broadcom issues. Could someone please advise me on which kext to use for sound? Also, I have a two monitors hooked up, but only one is working - I have ATI-X1300.

Your help is appreciated!!

I have a DELL 390 with Broadcom 5754 with ID 14E4 (167A) and got it working on iATKOS S3 v2 10.6.3 SL build. No 00's mac address either. I compared 2 working ones, where they had the xx 16 I replaced with 7A 16 like instructed and edited plist file added 14E4-167a to the list, all worked like a charm.

AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext.zip

NOTE: For 10.6.8 I couldn't connect at 1000 and at 100 it was slow, so use this driver, it might even work for 10.6.3: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=247470
