Hey everyone,

I posted a week or so ago about not being able to boot after loading 10.4.9 upchuck. I'm happy to say that after days of troubleshooting I figured it has to be something with the DVD and tried using 10.4.8 Jas image which worked great during the very first install. I tried my Latitude D600 and had everything working but wireless, however because of the crappy Mobility Radeon 9000 most of the applications like Chess and iChat crash on startup. I read through all the posts about my laptop and pretty much decided to scrap it and build a spare Optiplex GX260 I had laying around.

Its the tower version by the way and after popping in 1GB of RAM and a second hard drive it's a pretty sweet setup. The only downfall is again of course video. I have 4 or 5 cards laying around but unfortunately they are all ATI Radeons with a pathetic 32MB. So for X-mas I was thinking of getting myself a new graphics card for this machine that's:

1. QE/CI compatible

2. Able to produce at least 1280X1024 resolution

3. Will play my collection of xvid movies as well as my Windows machines do (that are ironically all running Radeon 7500's lol), and run all the standard OS X apps smoothly.

4. Works with 10.4.8 Jas without much extra hassle (I'm a newbie go easy on me)

4. Not looking to spend much more than $50-75

I'm not a gamer so I don't need anything fancy. Just something that I can get a good resolution, and play movies. I was going through the Wiki's hardware list for 10.4.8 and checking eBay for some of the Nvidia cards that appear to work perfectly...I was hoping you all could recommend one in particular for me. Since my machine's so old I don't have the option of a PCI-E card...only AGP or PCI. Any ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks again ;-)

thank you so much! I checked out eBay while I was at work and found a couple FX5500 AGP cards. They have a 256MB one for $45 which is only $10 more than the 128MB one. I'm going to go through the HCL list some more and see if there is anything else that stands out but I'm thinking that this card or the 6600GT might be the way to go. Then again I found a 128MB FX5200 for $25 lol :help:
