Hello,

I've been following this forum , well about a year now.

but i still haven't found a solution for my problem.

my problem is: I have two ATA 250 gig hd's

and my DVD drives are IDE

And also I hav a MSI K8NNEO4/SLI Mobo

I've been trying several methods but I still get the famous ''still waiting for root device'' error

I know this is because my first HD is not set as primary master.

But my problem is that my DVD -rom is set as primary master.

I looked in the bios and there it says:

IDE primary master: Benq DVD-ROM

IDE: Primary slave: Benq DVD -DD DW

IDE second master: /

IDE second slave: /

IDE third master: HD.......

IDE fourth Master HD.......

the two IDE cables off my HD's look the same and I can switch them.

But the cables of my DVD rom's don't look like the HD ones

they are a lot bigger and they don't fit into the HD slots.

So my question is how can I set my HD as primary master?

Thanks in advance.

P.S if you need a picture of my configuration just ask.

. . look at the HDDs & the labels stuck on 'em.

There will be a little jumper-block on the front edge of each HDD, adjacent the molex.

Jumper one of 'em to 'Master' t'other to 'Slave' referring to the labels on your HDDs for the correct jumpers to be bridged.

The 'Master' HDD is cabled to the end of your IDE cable for that channel, the 'Slave' to the other connector.

Only IDE drives can be set to Master or Slave. This is done by re-positioning the little jumper in the back of the drive. You can find more help, here: http://www.cheap-computers-guide.com/insta...rive-CDROM.html

I think your problem may be not the drives settings but rather your device boot priority. Look in your BIOS and make sure you set your SATA drive as the primary booting device.

. . OP stated: my problem is: I have two IDE 250 gig hd's

I'm going to try that.

I have another question: cant i just buy a second-hand 10 or 20 gig IDE HD

And connect that to the primary master and connect my to dvd's to secondary master and secondary slave.

And then format my second 250 gig HD and create a mac pratition.

This would then be my setup:

On my first HD i have vista installed

On my second HD is a 250 gig mac partition

And on my third HD i have a leopard installation

would it work if I do this?

P.S. my drives are ATA and not IDE sorry I accidentally mistyped it.

I have edited my post so it shows the correct setup
