seasurfer
My hard disk space is 200 gig, actually there is only 186 gig. I want to install vista and has been wondering how much space should I set for the partition. I have a question, does the amount of space affect the performance of both Leopard and Vista, by decrease the space for Leopard from 186 to 130-140 gig, does it affect at all? Does a bigger hard disk space enhance the performance of Vista? hecker
Hard drive space is absolutely irrelevant when it comes to OS performance, unless the drive has less free space than what is needed by the system's virtual memory manager (this will normally range between 1 and 3 gigs). Boot Camp
Just as hecker said "Hard drive space is absolutely irrelevant..." ABSOLUTELY! You could have vista on a 20GB partition or on a 500GB partition and it would run the same (if it was on the same computer). Falcon351
I agree, as long as you have enough space for the OS and your apps and data (plus some buffer zone), it should be fine. As a reference - I have Vista Ultimate on a 40GB partition (this is on a PC, but that's irrelevant in this context). Not much installed there except updates and Halo 2, and there's ~15GB used. This includes "pagefile.sys" and "hiberfil.sys", ~2GB each. These sizes will, of course, depend on the amount of memory you have (and whether you've customised the page file settings), and you can disable hibernation support to get rid of "hiberfil.sys".
