kahuku sweet
I have an external hard drive that is constantly being read under leopard. No one at apple can tell me how to find out what application/process is reading the hard drive. Can any of you? Thanks in advance -steve Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75213-external-harddrive-thrashing/ Share on other sites
Snerler
If you just installed Leopard then it might be getting indexed. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75213-external-harddrive-thrashing/#findComment-531365 Share on other sites
kahuku sweet
Snerler, Brilliant! That was it. It's so obvious, but no one at AppleCare could tell me. Me case was escalated three times to a total of four technicians and none of them even considered it. Outsourcing at it's worst. For some reason, I thought me external HD was exempt from Spolight searches. Anyway, thanks again. -steve Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75213-external-harddrive-thrashing/#findComment-534048 Share on other sites
sarahbau
Me case was escalated three times to a total of four technicians and none of them even considered it. Outsourcing at it's worst. Holy {censored}. How could none of them have even considered that? That was the first thing that came to mind for me as well. What I normally do when my HD has unknown activity is look to see if there is a process using CPU time. mdimport is the one that indexes for Spotlight, and that uses a fair bit of CPU. skyhighmac
I would have opened up activity monitor and see what was using up my cpu. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/75213-external-harddrive-thrashing/#findComment-534411 Share on other sites
