Install Leopard with NO TIGER install OR Second HARD DRIVE NEEDED!!!

--- You do need a second PC on a network and basic network skills.---

I wanted to help some of you who have had problems getting this to work.

Here is what I did works for me almost flawlessly on my Intel core 2 duo laptop, still not working on my AMD desktop yet.

What you need is a basic home setup. A laptop and a desktop or two desktops or two laptops... etc.. Either a wireless router or Ethernet hub or cables.

We're starting with the assumption that you have a network setup and working. both computers are connected to the same router or hub and have valid IP addresses and internet connections. If you don't know if you have a network check www.howstuffworks.com and look up home network then come back to this.

Section : I

Setting up HOST machine that will SHARE the leopard install.

1. Setup HOST computer to share out folder. I'm using XP on the host computer "my main desktop"

2. Go to Start->Cntrlpnl->network setup wizard

3. Go through setup and ensure you "Turn on file and printer sharing"

4. Reboot your HOST machine.

5. Create folder on desktop called MacOSx

6. Right click on the MacOSx folder and select 'properties"

7. Click on the "sharing tab" and check both check boxes to share folder and allow users to make changes. Click OK

6. Download torrent leopard-x86.rar around 2gigs in size

7. Extract it to the shared MaxOSx folder.

8. Go to the extracted folder and extract the "leopard-x86.rar" file inside the original. It will expand to 16,942,080bytes.

9. Lastly open a run command and type "cmd" to open a command prompt

10.Type "ipconfig" and not the ip address of the machines connected adapter. You will need this next.

Section : II

Performing Install on Client "Target" machine

1. This is assuming you are running windows XP. Not tested on vista. You are connecting to the same network as the HOST machine

2. Open a run command and type \\ipaddressforhost example: \\192.168.0.12 <-- This is the IP you noted from steps above.

3. Now the HOST machine should come up in a window and you should see your "MacOSx" folder

4. Navigate to the folder with the four folders "write leopard-x86-flat-img to disk0" through xx...disk4

5. Open the folder write leopard-x86-flat-img to disk0

6. Copy the entire contents

7. Go back to the main MacOSx folder

8. Open the leopord-x86 folder containing the file leopard-x86-flat-img

9. Copy the file from the folder write leopard-x86-flat-img to disk0 to this folder

10. Go back to the main MacOSx folder

11. Copy all the "dd.*" files anything with "dd" in it.

12. Open the leopord-x86 folder containing the file leopard-x86-flat-img

13. Copy all the "dd.*" files from the folder MacOSx to this folder

Section : III

You are ready to FLASH now.

1. Navigate to the folder containing the file leopard-x86-flat-img

2. Go to the address bar at the top of the window and copy the entire location

example: \\192.168.0.1\MacOSx\leopord-x86\......

3. In the same window go to the menu and ->Tools then ->Map Network Drive

4. Paste the address you just copied into the "folder" location. Leave the drive letter default.

5. Click OK

6. A new window will pop up now saying it is drive letter x:

10. Now double click "write leopard-x86-flat-img to disk0.bat" and wait it will count to just over 18,000,0000bytes then reboot.

11. If your running a compatible Intel Hackintosh BOX you should boot flawlessly into leopard OOBE "out of box experience" and then setup your new Mac!

You are DONE!!!! You may need to dig around for drivers for you devices but on my Laptop sound works, mouse and usb all work, video works, Bluetooth works. I need to get drivers for wireless and LAN cards and modem.

Problems.

Q. When I run the write leopard-x86-flat-img to disk0.bat file it says "error can't find dd......."

A. You did not map the drive. Go back to section III and Map the drive to the folder.

Q. I can't see my Host computer?

A. You network is not setup properly. Run the network setup wizard on both machines and use all defaults except for "turn ON file and print sharing"

Couple more screenshots to help.... :hysterical:

Once you see screen 3 you are DONE!!!

REBOOT immediatly.

This is all based on and install with a PC Intel x86 with only one physical hard disk drive.

All information on the TARGET computer will be deleted.

It is highly recomended to have a valid windows XP or Windows Vista Operating system to recover to if failure accours.

man i wish there was a way to use this flat image method but only onto a specific partition instead of having to wipe the drive clean.

i wonder if you had two HD's in the target machine, and shared the one not currently running XP. would that be a way to avoid losing the XP install on the target machine? just an idea ;)
