joelones
Now that we have a way of running Guid formatted drives on a Bad Axe 2, I would like to inquire as to why I noticed slower boot times with guid drives? The boot up time has increased from 10 secs to 45 secs. Any suggestions? replicant
i was under the impression it would do exactly the opposite; faster boot times and faster overall day to day performance. BJMoose
I have noticed the opposite. I have two identical samsung 500gb drives, with the same size partitions on them. One is GUID and the other MBR. The GUID drive boots about 3-4 seconds faster than the MBR drive. XBench also has increased on GUID...from 181 to 193. The big difference was with the HD random read. joelones
@BJMoose, what sata port do you have your drives on? Maybe it's my setup or bios setting. stellarola
GUID on my system hasn't been everything I was hoping it to be. While I did get higher HDD scores in Xbench, it doesn't really read as fast as it says. I went back to MBR. It's much smoother, in my opinion. -Stell Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/74773-slow-boot-up-times-with-bad-axe-2-and-guid/#findComment-528552 Share on other sites
BJMoose
@BJMoose, what sata port do you have your drives on? Maybe it's my setup or bios setting. My OSX drives are on the ICH7 controller and Windows drives are on the Marvell controller. joelones
Could be that i am using all the vanilla kexts expect for applesmbios, dsmos, nvinject and ionetworkfamily fix. Maybe this could be the problem.. upon booting up with -v, notice that there's seems to be quite a long pause after the line that follows: 12/4/07 8:54:41 PM kernel Intel8254X -- Negotiated Speed: 100 Mb/s, Duplex: Full, Flow Control: Receive Pause Enabled, Transmit Pause Disabled and right before this: 12/4/07 8:54:41 PM mdworker[107] _CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35 it's odd that i still get this error despite having applied the ionetworkfamily file fix in Contents/MacOS dir of the kext.
