I had 10.4.1 running nice on my Gateway 450XL but the harddrive died. Now that Gateway shipped me the new one, I tried 10.4.3

I used the 10.4.3 ISO with the Wesley Patch.

My question is: Since I have a Pentium M with SSE2 and not SSE3, do I still need to do a further patch? My 10.4.3 boots up fine with audio and ethernet working. Howevr, I have no GCC installed to get my wifi card working and Office 2004 installation constantly locks up. Safari crashes a lot, so I am using the Intel Firefox. So, are there more patches I need to use yet, such as the Maxxus ones? and How do I get GCC on?

Once I can get past this point, I can use my directions for my Gateway 450 XL already on this forum to get everything else working.

Thanks.

I see after downloading it that I have to patch my install DVD.

Is there a way to patch my OS now since I have it already installed?

And if I do have to reinstall, will it affect my Wesley Patch DVD properly?

Either that, or I can look at the different things the 4.2b patch does and do them separetly.

Sorry I should have given you this link

These files will allow you to just patch the kernel that is contain in this package

You will need to use the NO/NX PPF and the 4.2b PPF

Then replace your current kernel with the new one

I use a backup install of Mac for my testing so had to look around to help you

When you have made your new kernel name it something other then mach_kernel

Copy it to root and fix permissions

sudo chown root:wheel (kernel name)

sudo chmod 755 (kernel name)

Now go to your com.apple.Boot.plist and change this

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>Put your kernel name here</string>

Now reboot and all should be good

Hi guys!

Where can i get the correct 10.4.3 install-dvd? I've only found this one:

[Removed - no direct links to torrents - read the forum rules ]

Is this the correct one?

I want to install 10.4.3 in hope my problems with safari crahsing, international hang-ups and problems with installing applications will go away :S

Thanks so far!

macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.dmg is about 2.9GB compressed and 4.29GB uncompressed.

macosx_10.4.3_8f1111_for_dtk_userdvd.iso (With the Wesley Patch) is about 4.5GB.

So, besides the OLD Wesley Patch, am I missing anything if I use the smaller version?

Thanks again.

When you convert the DMG image to ISO the file size increases but the contents are the same.

You need to convert to ISO to use PPF patches and burn using windows based programs.

You can patch the DMG image by hand when you mount it in read/write mode but it's easier to convert it and use the PPF patches.

You are better off using the DMG image and converting it to ISO that way when new patches are released you can make a new install disk.

The wesley patched ISO does not contain some needed kext files and uses version 1.1 of the SSE3 to SSE2 emulation.

Also the wesley ISO can't be updated when new patches are released.

Sorry for the torrent link!!! Forgive me! :D

And thx for the quick reply! I will give this thing a try! :D

Ah, and a little "DOH"-Question: What does PPF mean? (I know that i know it but i know that i don't know it now *confuse*)
