DarkCarnival
Hey. I remember a while ago back when you had to download an image and write it with dd using a linux live CD to install the os. When I tried I encountered the following things: System was *really* slow (fixed with a TPM(?) patch) I also had to patch for rosetta to work (non SSE3 CPU) And some coregraphics stuff and so, it's a little hazy right now.. Anyway it was fun to try but not really useful for a main OS.. And since most of the installationguides on the wiki seems quite outdated (a few versions old) I thought I'd like to hear just how well it's working now... 1) Does most soundcards such as the Soundblaster series from creative work by now or is it still AC97 all the way ? 2) Is it possible to get REAL WORKING 3d accelleration with anything but a intel onboard graphics board ? I mean is it working well enough for you to pick a random game and play 3) Will third-party applications and non-bundled apple applications work seamlessly like they should on a real Intel Mac ? 4) What is the latest image/version to get ? still 8F1111 ? 5) Will the built-in update functions work ? The reason for my questions is that I'd like to try and see the OS working as it should and not in some crippled state. I'm pretty sure that I'll be getting a Mac to play with when I turn 18 (an Intel iMac or the Macbook Pro -depending how much cash I'll have ). And so it would be nice to test on a computer system first but I won't waste my time getting something which is practically unuseable to work. Oh.. And why not sticky most of these things ? I came by a post which linked to a site trying to get the nvidia drivers to load.. Why not sticky the important things so newbies can get a quick lowdown of things ? It would save a lot of repeated questions .. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7439-what-can-these-osx86-installs-do-currently/ Share on other sites

Metrogirl
Hmm. A lot of people have 10.4.3 working very nicely. It's difficult to keep this forum suited for everyone. We have people who are just curious, we have newbies and seasoned computer experts and we've tried to make sure everyone has a place to discuss their stuff. As Quixos said, all your answers are in here somewhere. Hint - the search button...
