ziggypop1234
before I start can I just say that this my second hackingtosh my other machine is in my sig which is currently running 10.4.11 (all drivers and qe + ci working) and leopard 10.5.1 (almost all working no qe + ci and "about this mac" crashes to blue screen). Ive been trying without success to install leopard using TOH RC2 Leopard on my MSI P4N diamond machine for the past week, I boot off straight from the dvd and it gets to the latter stages before the installation screen and boom! debugger called : panic! This is what I get: display: family specific matching fails localhost kext[47]: root filesystem is read-only; skipping kernel link data generation display: family specific matching fails panic(cpu 0 caller 0x001A7BED): Kernel trap at 0x354295bc, type 14=page fault, registers: CR0: 0x8001002b, CR2: 0x0000000, CR3: 0x01910000, CR4: 0x000006f0 EAX: 0x00000000, EBX: 0x0451bd00, ECX: 0x0000000, EDX: 0x0000000 "" "" Error code :0x0000000 Debugger called: <panic> Backtrace, Format - Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x352bc28 : 0x12b0e1 (0x4555b4 0x352bbc5c 0x133238 0x0) "" "" "" "" "" "" "" "" Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0 kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies): com.apple.Geforce(5.1.6)@0x35654000->0x356d5fff dependency: com.apple.nvdaresman(5.1.6)@0x35427000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IODRVSupport(1.5)@0x35419000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.4)@0x2eaba000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(1.5)@0x353fd000 com.apple.NVDAResman(5.1.6)@0x35427000->0x3563fff dependency: com.apple.nvdaresman(5.1.6)@0x35427000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IODRVSupport(1.5)@0x35419000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(2.4)@0x2eaba000 dependency: com.apple.iokit.IOGraphicsFamily(1.5)@0x353fd000 BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task Mac OS Version: 9A581 Kernel Version: Darwin Kernel Version 9.0.0: Tue Oct 9 21.35.55 PDT 2007; Tree:xnu-1228~1/Release_I386 My machine specs are MSI P4N Diamond Nforce 4 SLI motherboard P4 3.8Ghz (Model 570j) (775) 2GB XMS2 DDR2 667 Memory BFG Gforce 8800 GTS 320MB (G80 Model) PCI Express 120GB Sata HD (for test purposes only) (other drives are disconnected) Pioneer DVR11D IDE DVD Writer Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated! kadmiff
Boot with -v -x -f cpus=1 and you should get through the installer... From there (for Nforce) there is a great thread here on Nforce installs... Cheers
ziggypop1234
thanks kadmiff! for your help, I managed to install using the method you suggested. 1. I restarted the machine with the switches again to run the bootfix script from TOH`s Leopard disk. 2. Rebooted again without dvd, all appears good as the mill starts turning then the dreaded "grey screen, please hold down and turn off the machine to restart". 3. I restarted machine entered the switches -v -x -f cpus=1 started leopard into safe mode 4. Installed mac.nubs nvidia 8800 gts drivers which show up correctly The problem i have now is to resolve the "panics" when i try to boot normal. Running in -v mode produces the same "panics" as mentioned in my first post. If anyone can help then it would be greatly appreciated.
steedo
I have the exact same problem and same caller address (0x001A7BED). I think it might be my Asus8800GT video card
egendomligt
Hi, I've got a P4N Diamond as well. I installed Kalyways 10.5.2 release. Install went fine, both onboard NICs are working, but none of my wireless cards are working. I don't think OSX detects my PCI-ports at all. I've got two Wifi Realtek-based PCI-cards, and none of them even shows up in system profiler or ioreg. Also, I can't find any PCI1 (only PCI0) in ioreg's output.. Am I the only one having these problems?
