8cores
hi, finally i can run osx86 10.4.8 with 8 cores, the osx detects 8 cores but with 4 procesors (dualcore) instead of 2 (quadcore), but there is no problem for mentalray because it use all the cpu's power when i did a render: 45% faster than windows vista64, i want to know if the new .iso brazil leopard is using 64bit with the procesors? i am posting a screenshot of the system rendering with mentalray as a slave machine on my network thanks to every body who make this possible (osx on pc's) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/74244-8-cores-runing-screenshot/ Share on other sites
Azurael
That's actually correct (Intel's current quad cores are actually two seperate dual-core dies, each with shared L2, on a single PCB), and there's a good reason for why Apple do it that way even if it would be cosmetically 'better' not to; that being that Leo has enhancements to allow it to better take advantage of the cache coherency between dual cores with shared L2, so knowing that the quad core is actually two sets of dual cores, each with cache coherency in die 1 (cores 0+1) and die 2 (cores2+3), but not between the opposite die's cores is important. 8cores
What board are you running? this is the new mobo (new line) if you are planning to build a computer for the next 5-6 years (up to 16 cores) http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherb.../7300/X7QC3.cfm but i am using this with the osx86: http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherb...5400/X7DWN+.cfm and this one: http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=17&l3=77 both are runing only with pcie ati 1300pro, i don;t know why !, i have the quadros 4600 and 1400 sli without runing in osx86, i think is because this mobos has ati1000 chip as default, the asus is better if you want to run 2 os, because you only have to press F8 at the start up and the bios ask you with which hd run... (you have to install 2 hd's, (no partitions allowed) with the supermicro osx86 tiger startup to slow... my partner buy it, but he is using linux instead of osx because tiger only detect 8 cores instead of 16, maybe leopard detects 16, but this is not my computer...
