Chiisuchianu
wondering if anyone has tried using their dual core processors (like amd x2 or pentium d or whatever) with applications (such as maya) coded for dual core use, and if both processors have successfully worked with the app? thanx Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/7353-do-dualcore-processors-work-with-apps-originally-coded-for-it/ Share on other sites
Careless
wondering if anyone has tried using their dual core processors (like amd x2 or pentium d or whatever) with applications (such as maya) coded for dual core use, and if both processors have successfully worked with the app? thanx well for someone without and GL support for their card, and an overclocked 1.8ghz processor with a dual core... (running at 2.55 ghz) i seem to have the best xbench and photoshop tests recorded in the other threads. so maybe that says something? dkelley
it will, but only once it's recompiled to run natively on intel (unibin or universal binary). rosetta's emulation doesn't emulate a dual core g5, and while rosetta likes dual core intel machines it isn't the same concept. Once maya is released for core duo macs natively, it will of course be compiled to take advantage of the dual cores in a core duo (try saying THAT 10 times really fast!). But for now, dont' bother with serious 3d work using ppc apps on a macintel since rosetta will kill the speed quite noticeably and won't let the software's dual core support work properly (maya will think it's on a single core machine). I understand a lot about emulator theory but it's too hard to describe and I'm definitely not an emulator expert. Just beleive me - wait for the intel version of maya, or sooner yet try maxon cinema4d which will probably come out really quickly now since they have a news post saying it's already running natively in their internal tests. if maya's your thing then just hang in there for a while...
