for 10.4 the best mobo with easiest setup was badaxe2. im wondering if this is still true for leo. im buying a new setup and wanna get something that works out of box, or at least the best supported mobo.. ive built a few 0sx86 systems and before i was running a gigabyte pa-965p-s3 and it was a headache.. the issues with the sata not being supported right, having to run acpi mode andnot being able to use the pata connectors while doing so. etc.. so far badaxe2 has the best compatibility, most sata/pata connectors (working) etc.

the system will prob be an overclocked q6600 and id like to try and run the efi install on this system if possible.

also whats the diff between the new q6600 and the old.. the new have more cache or something? any benchmarks?

AFAIK, there aren't really a new and an old Q6600, unless you are talking about the Q6600 Go (it should overclock slightly better).

Or are you talking about the Penryn?

well onnewegg the L1 cache use to list as 64 + 64 on one of the chips and the other was 128 + 128 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....ame=Core+2+Quad

they both seem to be 128 now so maybe its the older q6600 that were 64 + 64 and all the ones they sell now are 128..

I don't think so. Are you sure you didn't see AMD processors the previous time?

well, i noticed badaxe2 doesnt support 1333 fsb i thought it did with biod update.. and they seem to be discontinued cause every store isnt restocking them. so are there any newer intel mobo that are as well supported and have similiar features? or any other brand that is well supported like the badaxe2 was. one that will function with IDE and SATA :)

I would think any Intel 945 or 965 based board will be fine. You can add video and Lan if need be. I would get one with Realtek audio and Intel Pro 100 networking and you should be safe.

GMA 950 or X3100 seem to be the way to go.....At least according to what I read on Uphuck they said the new version was going to support the X3100

" The question we're here to answer is whether or not the G0 based Q6600, (S-Spec: SLACR), is noticeably better than its B3 predecessor (S-Spec: SL9UM). "

Are You a Little Lazy ? :-)

Ok... the answer is: G0 stepping is better.

sorry im not really knowledgable in oc'ing.. so even if the board says its not 1333 fsb i can just overclock it? sorry if this is a stupid ?.. cause the only issue is the fsb. i dont wanna get a mobo that is old and wont run a q6600 as fast as a newer one.. but i have set up 3 badaxe2 systems running osx and it was the easiest most painless setup ive done so im sold on them.

i also already have a nvidia 7950gtoc 512 that i flashed so its supported out of the box.

Use google. I find, that 1333 fsb is/was undocumented, but

it really is in the new bios.

If i understand right, bad axe II over clock very well, and

there is even lot of hardware tweaking for it.

Now it is time to teach yourselves about over clocking.
