Pharao2k
Hi, I am planning to rebuild my "Hackintosh" and I don´t know which Mainboard I should pick. I have currently the Asus P5W DH Deluxe aswell as the Intel "Bad Axe 2" Mainboard here at home, so the pricing or availability isnt a criterium. So apart from mainboard-specific things like Overclocking and so on, which of these two are easier to install and more stable? I Plan to install Leopard with Vanilla Kernel and PC_EFI (I hope this is possible with my little experience) on a AHCI SATA Drive (will be bought, I think a Samsung HD501LJ -> 500 GB SATA2). On osx86scene, I read that Intel Mainboards are better in terms of compatibility in comparison to Mainboards from other Companies that "only" have an Intel Chipset. I need a stable onboard Lan, onboard Audio Output 2ch and 6ch (I think Dolby Digital Live (->AC3 Encoding), which both mainboards offer, isnt possible under mac os x, isn´t it? So, which one should I pick? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/73249-asus-p5w-dh-deluxe-vs-intel-bad-axe-2/ Share on other sites

Both are very well proven mobos for OSX86; but since this is often debated by folks without both mobos to hand, why not try try both (esp testing the reality/quality of multi-channel audio output) & report back? . . all I can say is that with PC_EFI the P5WDH [using 24xx firmware, which gives 45nm C2D support] works very well indeed, including sleep [AFAIK this also works/can be made to work in the BadAxe2] - post-install the only things you're likely to need to fix in the P5WDH are IONetworkingFamily [Time Machine/UUID fix] & audio using the ALCInject/AppleHDA kexts from this excellent resource. macaroo
I have an Intel BadAxe 2 mobo with C2D E6600 and was able to run Leo 10.5 + EFI patch just fine. Video with Nvidia 7600 GT works with full QE/CI. Network adapter works out of the box. The update to 10.5.1 didn't break the install at all. Even the Taruga patch for sound was working as well, although this is only for line in and line out.
