Assuming that all things are equal most of the ATI cards work fine with the 10.4.3 release. I know many folks have x300, a ton of 9800s and 9600s. There are some cards you probably should avoid - 7000 comes to mind - I'd search BEFORE buying. As far as other hardware interacting with the ATI, I've not seen or read about anything like that, so it should just work... kuliand
does it have to be an ATI card or can it be a card that uses the ATI chips eg. gainward or gigabyte? 39thRonin
does it have to be an ATI card or can it be a card that uses the ATI chips eg. gainward or gigabyte? Hmm, I'd stay as close to a real ATI as possible. I've heard (and read) numerous accounts of people buying an OEM version of a given card only to find that they either had to edit plists for days to get it to work, or were unable to get it working at all. It all comes down to three things: 1) Is it an ATI card or an OEM? 2) Is the GPU supported (x300 is)? 3) Is the vendor id string within the appropriate plist file (OS X uses this to determine if the card will support QE & CI)? Assuming that you get a real ATI x300 SE, it will meet all of the above and just work - though you (and everyone else with ATI cards it seems) will still get "mouse tears" and need to run Boinx Mousepose (search for this forum) to clear them up. kuliand
in the hardware compatability list in the wiki it says "Radeon X300-SE PCIe - VESA 2.0 , stuck on 1024x768x32 (setting any other graphics mode causes 'frequency out of range') 2d works" does that mean i will get QE and CI, and are there any cars that offer 3d support? ok i've just read my pc manual and i odn't have any PCIe ports just PCI and AGP is there any cheap cards that use AGP and give you QE and CI? macprodan
Not 100% sure if the X800 will work.? is it a AGP or PCI-e Card.? i know most of the PCI-e Cards dont, including mine. X800XL (R423) Dev 554d ven 1002, the kext loads but i have to remove ATiRadeon9700GA or it just gets stuck on the Grey Apple Screen.. it loads and mouse is usable but screen is stuck.. I really hope some LargeBrain can sort this out soon so we can all enjoy osx to its Full.. glufx
It's PCIe. I added it to the 9700 kext and it loads, I see the pointer in the top left corner but it doesn't move and everything else is garbled. Thx for the quick reply.
