indigoimac
Ok, I have a 17" C2D w. a 2GHz C2D... the machine supports 3GB RAM... and the radeon x1600 It's my understanding that it uses intel's T7200 chip.. I have to opportunity to get an E6600 from a friend of mine. Can I swap them? The T7200 has a 667MHz FSB and the E6600 is 1066MHz, how will the iMac handle that? Can it support the 1066? Can it support 800MHz?
socal swimmer
because the clock speed of your processor is (fsb)*(some constant multiplier), putting a 1066MHz processor on a 667MHz fsb would cause the processor to underclock by a lot. plus i dont know if you can even replace processors on an imac. BOL_fan
All Macs use notebook processors (except the Mac Pro), which is the reason for the slower 667 FSB. The E6600 is a desktop processor, so it won't work. It wouldn't even fit in the socket. Assuming you can change the proc in an iMac, look for a mobile version of a Core or Core2 proc to do it with. Hope that helps.
