daver68
Hi all, So I found out the other day that my friend had a JaS.10.4.8.Intel.SSE3.Only.Install.DVD.iso DVD, which I borrowed and made a copy of. As you could imagine, I was estatic as I didn't have to go out and buy a Mac for the work I need to do. I followed the instructions on this webpage almost to the letter, up to the part of actually installing Mac OSX. The only changes I had made from the guide was upping the RAM to the VM to 768MB (I have 2GB instal ed), and in the settings file, I left out the guestos = "darwin" and scsi0.present="FALSE". The VM manages to boot from the external DVD drive, and gives me the "Press any key or hit F8" option to install from DVD. However, after loading a few lines, VMware spits out an error at me with this dialogue box: and then immdiately after clicking "OK" to that dialogue box, I get this error: I've looked all over these forums, and found absoluetly no solutions to this "kernal stack fault" error. Some people believe it's a matter of the guest operating system being Ubuntu, Windows NT, and Other. Others have just said that it's a bad MD5 Checksum. I don't think it's any of those, since my friend was able to successfully install Mac OSx86 with this exact DVD on his desktop. (He eventually got rid of it, just sticking to Ubuntu). Does anybody have any clues how to get past this point? I'm using VMware Workstation 6.0.2 (I previously tried using 6.0 as per the instructions in the provided link above). Here's my specs: -Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit -HP TC4400 (tablet) -T7200 @ 2.0GHz -2GB RAM -120GB HDD (about 70GB free) -DVD+/-R/RW drive is an external USB - a Pioneer internal drive stuffed into an external casing For the other mobo/CPU info I'm not sure about, here's the CPU-Z clips: I'd appreciate some quick replies, as I need to get this Mac OS VM working as soon as possible. Thanks, daver Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71849-error-during-vmware-installation/ Share on other sites
~pcwiz
Try switching the guest OS in VMware to "FreeBSD 64-bit". If that doesn't work, try using the JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3 PPF1 and PPF2 ISO instead of the SSE3 only ISO. daver68
during my installation(s), i tried all sorts of alternatives, based on the posts of others. that includes using the Linux/Ubuntu, Windows/NT, Other/Other, Other/FreeBSD-64 options. as for the other JaS version, i've got it all queued up, but it's sitting there like a bump on a log at 0kb/s. been like that for the past week, ever since i read the tutorials on the wiki and such. ~pcwiz
One more thing to ask: Did you follow the instructions EXACTLY? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/71849-error-during-vmware-installation/#findComment-510556 Share on other sites
daver68
i followed the instructions to the letter. since the first "failed" attempt, i've tried many combinations of different settings and such, including the VMware config file. for the record, i've used your tutorial for 10 or so attempts, following the instructions exactly. the only difference, as i stated before, was how much RAM i gave the VM: in your tutorial you say to give it 512MB, I simply upped that to 768MB. everything else is exactly as instructed. i have also tried using different VMware Workstation versions. I started with v6.0 build 45731. then I tried 6.0.1 and now i'm using 6.0.2. i'll downgrade to v6.0.0 again and try again. fingers crossed...
