Hi everyone!

After weeks of trial and error I finally have full acceleration with my x1700. I tried files from thehuan with no luck (blank blue screen and cursor) and lemnisk8's files which gave me acceleration with 1024x768 res and graphical glitches. With more file testing I managed to get 1280x800 res and dual monitor support. Yesterday in a complete fluke I finally managed to concoct a winning combination which gave me full res and qe/ci!!

I thought id better post my files for anyone who is having similar problems as me getting their x1700's to work. I'm sorry, but I'm not really sure of the origins of these files, so i'm not quite sure who to thank. Though, I would like to thank thehuan and lemnisk for their great work in this project.

Installed on my Z53J (same as F3jp) running Leo4Allv3. Works but I got artefacts and random freezes.

Any suggestions ?

hmmm its suprisingly stable for me :S just in case check that you don't have the Leopard gfx update installed, maybe thats your problem? or not?

I'm also having some problems of my own! QE/CI only seems to work on the internal monitor :S I'm fairly sure its because, for some reason, I don't have dynamic res changing anymore!? I think thats the problem, because when I booted up the doom 3 demo (640x480 default res) the screen went blank and I could here the menu sounds in the background. This same thing happens when I change res in the display setting.

Anyone know what to do?

Hi there,

Like i explained in my previous posts DiaboliK helped me allot to find the solution for my display so i thanks him for that help.

The Natitx1700 is based on Natitx1600 that DiaboliK made but it has something in the info.plist that might make the driver to work strange in some situations. The strings that you do not need in the info.plist ( in my humble opinion ) are:

@0,fboffset

@1,fboffset

ATY,EFIOrientation

You might try to remove those strings, but first do a backup of the kext

chmod and chown the kext

remove the Extensions.mkext

reboot

Also if you edit the com.apple.Boot.plist and add the string

Graphics Mode=WxHx32

*example from my com.apple.Boot.plist is Graphics Mode=1440x900x32

Those that have installed the LGU (Leopard Graphics Update) the symptoms are the black menus or black screen, so if you have stripes or artifacts or the DVD Player is not working is because the driver Atiinject or Natit, and also has dependences in AccelerateFramework.

This is my experience so far. I can play all the Mac OS games, also the Cider ported games and all the software that requires Qe/Ci.

Wish you all of you "GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY HACKINT0SHING !"

Thanks for your help Righteye!

I deleted those strings in the info.plist and now I have my external monitor working at full res, she looks great!... BUT, im still having problems changing the resolution! all I get is a blue screen (black screen in games). Do you know what I could do to fix this? Its all I need for a practically 100% working OS.

Thanks again for your help!!

Try replacing the ATINDRV.kext with this one but make a backup just in case ...

IT WORKS!!

Thank you so much righteye! I really really appreciate your help!! I'm so happy that I can game in OS X now!... There is a new problem now though, the laptop's internal monitor is now flickering and "jerking" constantly! I can see what its displaying, its just glitchy. It doesn't really bother me though, I rarely use my laptop away from my desk anyway! I'm just so pleased I can use OS X for everything now!

a MILLION thanks again righteye!! :)

EDIT: So im having more problems getting os x to boot with just the external screen now! Whenever I boot with the internal screen off, or with the lid closed, right when Leopard starts, the internal screen turns back on and the external screen turns off! As soon as I press fn+f8 and switch to the external screen I get a whole lot off checkered boxes and have to restart. The only way I can get my external screen to work, is if I boot with the internal screen on aswell as the external screen!

So Im wondering if there is a way for me to boot up with only just the external screen on? Or if there is a way for me to set the external screen as default in osx without it crashing?? This is probably really confusing and im not expecting a solution but if anyone knows of one I would REALLY appreciate it!... sorry if im asking for too much, I really don't want to bother anyone!

Looks like a problem in the Atiinject or Natit info.plist

Send me your file and i have a look.

I have also problems if i play with the Fn+F8 after the os is started, or i click on Detect Displays in System Preferences.

My files are attached at the bottom of my post.

Many, many thanks for your help righteye!!

Here is the Natitx1700.kext as i know should look like.

But also you might give a try to ATiinject.kext

(do not use them together)

Give me some info about your results.

Cheers

Anyway i tried your natitx1700 with no success , just got blue and black screen! now try atiinject!

send you my results soon! thanks for your help.

Okay tried the ATIinject and same problem as with natitx1700? Any idea what it is?

Righteye,

I really dont mean to be such a pain, but I just upgraded to 10.5.5 successfully and everything is working fine except QE/CI! the resolution works fine and ive reinstalled the kexts 3 times with no success! I think its got something to do with injectors not working in 10.5.5. Is there anything I can do to get acceleration back? If not il just go back to 10.5.3 again!

Thanks heaps!

No pain here :) ... just do the test with the attached files and give some feedback

Also you have to use your Atiinject or Natit you used before.

Hi there!

I had this all working including resolution, QE, CI, until I upgraded to 10.5.5. Now all I have is the correct resolution. I have tried a variety of combinations to no avail. The most recent group of kexts I tried is attached, and resulted in a full boot into the OS, with an error windows stating that ATIinject.kext was installed improperly and cannot be used.

ATI v5250

14.1" (1400x1050) display

My sincerest thanks for your help on this!

Do this in Terminal:

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/atiinject.kext

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/atiinject.kext

sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

diskutil repairPermissions /

Yowch! Upon repairing the permissions I now received a normal gray loading screen, then a flash of the expected blue, and then just a black screen while the hard disc spins away. Would it be possible for you to take a look at those three files I had attached in my previous posting? Those are all the files I am using to (hopefully) support my ATI v5250 on my Thinkpad T60P.

Thanks so much!

Send me the device id and the EDID so that i can compare. You can get all using Phoenix EDID Designer under windows... Atiinject.kext has to be modified.

I think this is it. Please let me know if this makes sense!

-Amana

I think the vendor is "1002" and the device id is "71D4" if I am interpreting correctly.

ok ... first try this and after do the thing to repair permissions as above mentioned. if is not working, post the results and i'll try something else.

When I place the kext files in the extensions directly, I seem to receive an instant crash (kernel panic, I believe) before I am able to do anything else. It seems as though the system is processing the kext files as I place them in the directory.

Thoughts?

Ok. I removed the files, and tried again. Now the kexts are being processed (I believe) however system profiler interprets my v5250 as an x1700 (the device ID is correct however) The issue is that CI, and QE are not functioning.

Thoughts?

So ... before update to 10.5.5 you had Qe/Ci and res change working?

After update you had only Qe/Ci but no native resolution?

Now, when you are using the Atiinject.kext ... no Qe/Ci ... no native resolution?

I had a similar problem with it crashing when moving/installing kexts too!

Try and use kexthelper or osx86tools to install kexts, its much easier and does all the terminal tricks for you!

Goodluck! Righteye will know what to do
