Roflcopter_Down
Hello everyone! I have an iPod Touch and I want to sell it to my friend so I can buy an iPhone. I have T-Mobile so I would need to unlock it. I have several questions: 1.) If I went to the store and purchased one tomorrow, would I be able unlock it for free, if so, with what? If not, what should I use? 2.) Can I jailbreak it as easily as I did my iPod Touch? 3.) Can I keep my old phone number and sim card? 4.) I've heard of unlocked iPhones being bricked by new firmware updates. Are these just fools updating their unlocked iPhones with Apple's new firmware? Or does it automatically update? Can I update to the newest version of iTunes? If not, what version should I stay at? Thank you very much!
Numberzz
1) It has a new Firmware version, so you have to wait for hackers to do their work. 2) Jailbreakme.com after hackers to their jobs. 3) The iPhone has a sim card built in, so you need to enter your phone number and account number for whatever service you have now. 4) Unlocking is different that jailbreaking. If you want to use it on a different cell phone service, yes, it could brick. You can use 7.5, and it asks you if you want to update the Firmware, but it comes with 1.1.2. Roflcopter_Down
Ah. I see. Would I have to go to eBay to find unlocked/unlockable iPhones?
Roflcopter_Down
Would stores still have 1.1.1 iPhones considering 1.1.2 went live yesterday?
heatpeep
doesn't matter either way since 1.1.2 has now be jailbroken http://www.tuaw.com/2007/11/09/1-1-2-ipod-...ficial-release/
Roflcopter_Down
Yup, I heard. They cracked it before it went up on iTunes. But can it still be unlocked? If I bought a 1.1.1 iPhone what would I use to unlock it?
Roflcopter_Down
Oh well. I went to the Apple Store in Corta Madera, CA, picked up an 8GiB iPhone (had 1.1.1 firmware), went home, followed the directions on http://iphone.unlock.no/, jailbroke it, unlocked it and I am now using it with T-Mobile. nikg_v1
That may be a option turned on in either "Customize" or "SummerBoard." I have both on my iPhone and it allows me to just scroll over to the left, like flipping though photos.
