yaleyu
Model: Dell 640m CPU: Pentium Dual Core T2080 Memory: 2G DDR 667 HDD: 80G SATA OS: Leopard 9A581 I never thought it's slow even it's slower than XP on same machine, but today I compared it with my colleague's 2 years old Mac G4, I feel it's so slow. Apart from difference between Power PC and PC, it still surprised me, I googled something, noticed somewhere mentioned single core and dual core, then I disabled 1 core in BIOS, speed is increased dramatically!!! Does Leopard really support dual core CPU? Anyone try this and feedback here is appreciated. Purple Puppy
In my Leopard (ToH), one of the cores of my Intel Core 2 Duo is disabled... still haven't found out why. e-rick
It is supported. brazilmac gm. Tested with cinebench.. it does the same test using one core and using both cores.. test results differed by a factor 1.8.. I'm using BrazilMac, I didn't use such professional benchmark test software, just tried some simple action, like typing in terminal, sliding picture in finder. The difference is big. Do you mean single core:dual core=1:1.8 with cinebench? yaleyu
Update: 1. Put idlehalt=0 in boot.plist, enable dual core in BIOS=slow, disable dual core in BIOS=normal 2. Put idlehalt=0 cpus=1 in boot.plist, enable dual core in BIOS=normal but in System Profiler CPU=0, CORE=1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70024-does-leopard-really-support-dual-core/#findComment-496794 Share on other sites
NeSuKuN
Take into account that leox86 kernels aren't as tested and polished as tiger's, a performance issues in such specific circumstances is expectable. I mean, if you can't make it work well today, have patience, maybe when a new leo kernel appears you'll obtain the performance you want. I saw in another thread that Dell laptop always has some problem. e-rick
Yes i meant a 1:1.8 performance difference between single and dual. Which kernel are you using by the way?
