Killroy
Are there any risks with resizing my OS X and Boot Camp partitions with Disk Utility in Leopard? Has anyone tried this? I've always thought that whenever you resize a partition there is at least some risk of corruption and complete data loss. Mac OS X 10.5: About resizing disk partitions I read that article and am now confused. At first I thought this was nothing special because Disk Utility would erase the data first, but then I started the process and noticed the following: It says, "No volumes will be erased." So Disk Utility can now resize partitions on-the-fly. Is it safe to resize my system partitions with Disk Utility in this manner? webterractive
It should be but it might screw your XP booting capability. I would just use an External drive or re-partition the drive before installing Windows. hazkid
What you're trying to do is shrink your Leopard partition and extend your XP partition. This is, to put it simply, impossible (at least with diskutil). What you would need to do is move the header backwards, which again, is impossible. SO, in short, to gain more space on your XP drive, you would have to delete it and redo it. It should be but it might screw your XP booting capability. I would just use an External drive or re-partition the drive before installing Windows. No, it wont. Boot Camp Assistant is simply a GUI for diskutil. Disk Utility is also a GUI for diskutil. Boot camp is doing the same thing to your drive DIsk Utility is. And of course, diskutil supported non-destructive resizing since TIger. You just had to use the command line.
