VacTacks11
I have the Intel D975XBX board with the Sigmatel STAC9221D HD Audio. Leopard actually recognizes the Audio as HD Audio, but nothing comes out. Everything else works great! Doing some light reading brings me to the following (using a STAC9221D AppleHDA.kext): 1. Download AppleHDA.kext from 10.4.3 (attached in zip format). 2. Copy to /System/Library/Extensions/ and replace original (backup would be a good idea). 3. Open Terminal 4. Type "sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache" 5. Type "sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions Unfortunately there isn't a Extensions.kextcache and Terminal spits out "rm: /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache: No such file or directory" when I try to type #4. Any ideas how I can get my Audio to work if I can't get steps 4 and 5 working? Thanks! Ferret-Simpson
Use AppleHDA.kext from something later, major changes have happened between say. . 10.4.8 and 10.5.0, much less since .4.3. Only repairing permissions is required on Leopard, no work with cache files. Ferret. VacTacks11
hmmm thanks. I'm going to download the XxX 10.4.10 and use the AppleHDA Patcher with a 9221 Linux Dump to create a new AppleHDA.kext I'm going to then copy that .kext over to a new installation of Leopard - see if that works! VacTacks11
Hey is there more to do?? I installed XxX 10.4.10, ran the AppleHDA Patcher, restarted and had sound. I copied that AppleHDA.kext to my Leopard installation, copied over the existing AppleHDA.kext, repaired permissions, restarted and I don't have sound. Should I have done it through the Terminal, instead of a simple copy/replace? Here's the AppleHDA.kext for the Sigmatel 9221 for the Intel D975XBX (I've confirmed it works in 10.4.10). (Edit: I'll add it in a bit). AppleHDA.kext.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69537-enabling-sound/#findComment-494475 Share on other sites
VacTacks11
Success!! Thinking I couldn't use the AppleHDAPatcher in Leopard I tried again and I've glorious sound! Step 1: Download the AppleHDAPatcher from http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...t=0&start=0 Step 2: Download the Sigmatel 9221D (STAC9221D.txt) Linux Dump from http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/ Step 3: Install the Patcher but DON'T open it (you don't want to see the "drag and drop window open) Step 4: Drag the STAC9221D.txt file onto the AppleHDAPatcher and follow the instructions. Step 5: Restart the computer and you should have sound Note: This is for Vendor Id: 83847683 and 80860417 Good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69537-enabling-sound/#findComment-494742 Share on other sites

The sound icon is by the time, and the volume controls on the keyboard bring up the volume meter but no actual output. Anyone else? _loosh_
Unfortunately I did this with the Sigmatel 9220 and it didn't work for me. The sound icon is by the time, and the volume controls on the keyboard bring up the volume meter but no actual output. Anyone else? I downloaded the 9220 file and it did work, almost 100%. Did you change your jack from the blue to the green? The HDAPatcher fixes this so they are as they should be. I have stereo audio through green, mic input through red and have not checked if blue works. The front panel headphone socket works too, however sound still comes out the rear instead of cutting out. The only problem is that mute does not work anymore and I use the mute button on my keyboard a lot. The sound up and down buttons work but the sound will not go completely off - only almost.... weird. _loosh_ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69537-enabling-sound/#findComment-496267 Share on other sites
VacTacks11
For the 9221 the Stereo Output is on the blue, not the green (for some reason). Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69537-enabling-sound/#findComment-496286 Share on other sites
abcsoy
I had problems getting my 9220 working, I'm not sure how or why but before I tried my old Tiger kext, which works fine in tiger except the switched audio ports no big deal everything else was perfect, but it didnt work in Leopard. I tried the instructions above, used the 10.5 and patched with the 9220 kext that didn't work either. Then I tinkered around with it some more tried using my Tiger kext once more, on reboot it hung at the blue screen after the os loads but before the desktop shows ect, I rebooted and then it worked fine. In summery, I used my Tiger hda kext, set permissions, rebooted and it hung on loading the gui, rebooted it worked perfect (except audios are switched) Anyone Ideas on why it would hang and then work? StrongBad18
I tried the same thing with the 975xbx and i cannot get my sound functioning. Which version AppleHDA patcher are you using? I'm running iATKOS. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69537-enabling-sound/#findComment-561410 Share on other sites

I'm running iATKOS. Just use the patcher attached and drop the dump file onto it (do not run it as VacTacks11 suggests) and wait for confirmation. reboot and you're good to go. I have Leo Kalyway 10.5.1 and mobo is Intel D955XBK. Snooky Wookems
Hi, I also have an D975XBX for a mainboard, since I updated to 10.5.5 (kalyway 10.5.2 disc) the system doesn't shutdown right when audio is enabled... Restarting and sleepmode work fine, only when I shutdown the system it gives the error message in 6 languages, any of you guys familiar with this problem? When I disable the audio in the bios everything works fine (except for the audio of course).
