hazkid
Is there any way to map these keys to special characters? Even now and then, I need to type something in French, and need to insert characters such as: é (Or wasting time, then I would use characters like ). I really don't want to open the Special Characters Palette every time. Maybe a plist file somewhere that handles this sort of thing? manitoba98
You don't need to use the Special Characters Palette, just memorize the shortcuts. You mentioned French, so here they are: Option+e, [letter] = [letter w/ accent aigu]. (e.g: Option+e, e = é) Option+`, [letter] = [letter w/ accent grave]. (e.g: Option+`, a = à) Option+i, [letter] = [letter w/ accent circonflexe]. (e.g: Option+i, o = ô) Option+c = ç If I recall correctly, holding down Option in the Keyboard Viewer shows these, but I haven't done it in a while, so I'm not entirely certain. Edit: I believe the Euro symbol (€) is Shift+Option+2. That said, as both a Mac and a Linux fan, I much prefer the X11 Compose Key method used by Linux. For Euro, for instance, I didn't even have to think: RightAlt (I've set that as my Compose key, but it's customizable), =, e. How did I know? The Euro symbol looks like an E with an equals sign through it. Guess how to get ©. Here's just a few that work: Compose, C, O; Compose, C, 0; Compose, (, C; there are many more. I wish Apple would switch to this: it's fantastic for random characters. That said, I prefer OS X overall as a consumer OS. </rant> Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69049-f13-f19/#findComment-490766 Share on other sites
