Ok I download this JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3 because I needed it to install the brazil mac leopard.

Now I found out that I need to have mac osx installed for even this?

I can't find the instructions anywhere for this install JaS.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3

Can I just install this on a blank NTFS/non blank NTFS HDD? Or do I need to convert it to this HSF+ format?

168,

If this is going to be your first experiment w. OSX86, make it easy on yourself, forget about dual boot for the moment and forget about Leo. You will get there later, first get your hands dirty!

Just devote a HD to OSX. You can buy one for a couple of tenners these days...

I think a PATA HD is still the best and as I mentioned, boot from the Jas dvd, format the HD using DiskUtilities (Mac, Journaled) and install 10.4.8 on there.

It's going to be a bit different william as I'm installing Tiger, not Leopard.

Anyhow the Tiger disk works fine, boots up into the install menu, but it won't detect any disks.

I'm guessing:

My 320GIG SATA disk is in NTFS, therefore Mac OSX can't detec,s o I'm going to format one disk now in FAT32.

I'm using a Gigabyte 965P S3, so purple and yellow, ports, all sata drives, except for the IDE DVDRW, yes I know, I'll go buy a SATA DVDRW for the Leopard install (as I believe I don't need one for Tiger?)

Any other tips? None of my SATA HDD's are being detected in MAC OSX BOOT. I have /SATA IDE in BIOS SET TO run as NATIVE, not LEGACY SATA MODE>

168,

So, you started up from the Jas dvd and got to the installation menu with the blue background desktop? If you are there, click the menubar (I believe its the Utilities menu) for the Disk Utilities program. Click that, then you HD may show up on the left if your SATA HD is recognized.

If so, format / partition the disk. To install you need to have a partition that is formatted as MAC HFS+ Journalled (>5Gbyte, make it as large as possible).

If your disk is not recognized, get a PATA!

Again, if this is your first OSX86 exposure, as it seems it is, just stick w. Tiger for a moment and see if you can get that fully installed and running (displays, sound etc.). Then make a next step to Leo.

Had a question that doesn't pertain to leo put this disk actually

I've been booting off and installing from this disk for months now

the other day, for some reason it goes through the paces and lets me do everyting I want but...

when it gets to installing (JaS 10.4.8..........) it craps out

why all of a sudden does it {censored} out?

specs in the sig

Not sure, I know that sata support can be an issue. Maybe its the HD itself which starts giving up!

SATA is out because the disk doesn't even see it.

It can't be the IDE hard disk because tubgirl 10.4.8 works and installs nicely to it (aside from the fact that upon reboot internet doesn't work)

I just like how everything worked well with JaS and now I can't use it

I've actually got the HDD working, I just went back and booted up a WinXP CD to format the C partition to FAT32 so that it could recognise in MAXOSX, had nothing to do with the BIOS settings.

Only problem now once it finishes installing, it doesn't boot and just hangs there after the boot from cd icon (yes I have taken out the CD).

I believe there is a fix for this and I will go read it up later on.

OK done a reinstall and now it [Tiger] Boots

Forgot to install Intel SSE3 , drivers etc, this time I unchecked the printer drivers as I have a samsung.

Now it tries to load into MACOSX after boot and just tells me that I need to restart MACOSX (None of the OS has come up yet) I get a semitransperant botx that tells me that I have to restart the computer.

List of Hardware

Gigabyte 965P S3

IDE DVDRW

SATA 320GIG HDD plugged into Yellow port

Set to run at Legacy SATA/IDE, not Native mode

I have successfully installed Tiger, but at the first reboot it gets into the blue screen and then some HDD activity which leads to the popup menu saying "You need to restart your computer"

Anybody know how to fix this?

Failing this I tried to install Leopard over it and just gave me an error message SAM Multimedia READ or write failed over and over again.

Thanks guys - there doesn't seem to be much at all at how to install Tiger properly, it's all filled up with Leopard.
