Well, this is called a RC2 release, & that's about right.

This DVD appears to have install-profiles for some well-proven OSX86 mobos, including the P5WDH. Everything bar the ALC882 worked outta-the-box: 6600 with CI/QE & so on.

Installation, tho' very slow, is 'automatic' - there are no options/drivers to choose from . . tho' barmily you have to manually untick the 'extras' [X11, printer drivers & so on] which have been removed to bring the thing down to DVD5.

. . . on this P5WDH/C2D box, rock solid through 10.4.8~10.4.10 [6 different install-DVDs], there are a couple of issues, & one showstopper.

Issues on this system are:

1) [minor or fairly major]: only one core appears to be activated [using a C2D, the thing is shown in system profiler as a Core2Solo] - presumably either a trivial Profiler issue, or a kernel/ACPI issue; but an unpleasant surprise if the latter. Have not run performance checks to make sure of this; but the boot-process shows one CPU only.

2) [minor]: Full-on kernel panic when Sil3132 drivers installed [i have a Sil3132 2-ch eSATA PCIe host]

3) [show-stopper]: Disk Utility will not make a proper MBR partition, & the post-install script 'fix' [to make your new volume bootable] doesn't work.

. . it worked nicely as an upgrade-DVD [over my 10.4.10 install, cloned to a spare Raptor]; but I couldn't make a clean install, despite a day's faffing around. A single-core install is [for my tasks] unusable; so I'm waiting for fixes/firsthand reports before moving over to Leo.

ATM I wouldn't really describe this as an install-DVD; anyone interested in an install-DVD might be well advised to wait for a PPF to fix the installer.

Interested in other folks' firsthand experiences with this DVD, especially if more obviously positive than mine.

I have first used the Brazilmac dvd with usb stick but that gave me an invalid operating error after the reboot. Still using a 945G board.

Now I am downloading the ToH DVD. If the disk utility does not make a proper MBR partition can one first wipe the hard disk with a the disk utility on the DVD of a 10.4.9/10 system and then do the clean installation of 10.5 ToH?

I say wipe since i first partition the disk in windows with disk director make it primary, active and give it type "shag OS swap".

Then booting from osx86 dvd I erase and label that partition with the disk utility on the DVD.

. . didn't try the first option, & the second didn't work [for me] tho' I don't run windows so used several partitioning CDs [Paragon Pro/GPartEd & so on] to make a single primary [active & so on], for the ToH Disk Util to erase/format to HFS journalled.

Only thing which worked was a reinstall of 10.4.10 to a premade FAT32 primary on a second HDD [erased to HFS journalled], copy over settings & so on from working install using migration assistant, run ToH installer over this new install. That gave booting leo with all my files/settings without screwing over this working install.
