I'm trying to install OSX 10.4.3 from a patched DVD onto my machine but I run into a problem of when I boot using the OSX DVD the Apple comes up but then the video and words is black and white and the letters are garbled and difficult to read. I have the AGP buffer set to 8MB.

I'm running

Dell Dimension 2400

Pentium 4 2.8Ghz

Intel Extreme Graphic 845

1GB RAM

30GB HD.

I've read other posts where people using the Dell Dimension 2400 with Intel Extreme Graphic controller needed to load up to safe mode and delete some AppleIntel*** files and edit IOPCIMATCH ..etc etc etc.

I know that was for 10.4.1 with the deadmoo version, but do I also need to do that with the 10.4.3 version also?

Secondly, the installation instructions for 10.4.3 all say to boot and install from the DVD which won't allow me to delete and edit files on the DVD whereas the instructions for deadmoo was to copy the OSX onto the hard drive first and install from the HD. Can I just follow the instructions for 10.4.1 for 10.4.3 and just copy the files onto the hard drive and install from there?

I'm pretty curious about the video problem too, I get the same issues. :excl:

HI,

I've a similar/identical problem. Dell Inspiron 1100 Intel 845GL extreme graphics! 64 megs video ram.

Got a pre installed 10.4.3 with the Jas 4.2b patch on a HD from a friend who installed to a Toshiba Lap. Works fine on the Toshiba.......I get grey scale, very los res video ( almost impossible to read) ! We tired to reinstall with his DVD and the same bad Video at the start of the install!

Any way to get the Video to work with the pre install from his Toshiba on my HD ?

Or how do I get visable Video on the Install?!

HELP B)

I think you both need to set in Bios of your Computer... under Integrated Devices there should be a setting for the onboard Video...Black and white comes when its set to 1mb on the 845 it should be possible to set it to 8mb save and reboot into OS X. :weight_lift:

The Intel 845 on-board graphics is not supported in 10.4.3 and subsequent releases. I hit this same problem where you only get the unreadable grey-scale. This gave me the incentive I needed to get a real graphics card (no offense intended). I upgraded to the Radeon x1600 and it works perfectly.

HI all,

On a Laptop.......I can't install a different a video card :)

So back to same problem. I read on another thread that a user who has a identical laptop to mine ( Dell 1100) , was successsful using 10.4.1 !

I've been searching the bit torrents but can't find it?! Does anyone have a good DVD copy they can offer. I'd pay for creating and shipping!

THANKS!

PS I was able to get 10.4.1 but I'm having the same problem. I thought I read that if I put in a "graphics mode" = " 1024x768x32@60" ( I do have vesa3) , then that would let me install? But I'm still getting 800x600 unreadable graphics on the first text install screen!? When I enter ?video it 'reports that 800x600 is the biggest mode available?

Am I not entering enough of a Command Line?!

MY MISTAKE !!!!! :hysterical: By re-reading the HCL Hardware List and my Dell 1100 being listed as 'OK", I re-read the specifics on this one gents Dell 1100 where he was specific in saying that it was possible to change the VIDEO RAM in the BIOS! Wellll after looking at my BIOS numerous times, I FINALLY 'saw the light' on page 3 of my BIOS and unlike page 1, was able to change my Video ram from 1 meg to 8megs! :D

And viola, 10.4.3 works :D I"m such an idiot! :)

Hi macmono, is your X1600 an AGP card ? if so do you have QE/CI enabled ?

Yes, it is a Radeaon x1600 Pro AGP, 256MB. I have an intel 845 chipset on the motherboard and capped at AGP 4x. QE/CI not working. My max resolution is 1024x768. If I try and force anything higher in the .plist then it won't boot up. Funny thing though, I am not experiencing any of the mouse tearing that others have reported.

I am currently running 10.4.3 but I am going to try the upgrade to 10.4.5 over the coming weekend.
