MaxWonderful
so i've finally taken the plunge and installed the mac nub 10.4.10 OS X 86 on a DELL Optiplex GX270. I was extremely impressed with the entire installation process - i was able to use the Disk Utility to blow away the old Windows XP NTFS partition and create a empty partition for the Mac file system. Installed the OS - took approx. 16 minutes... all looked well and then it said restart your computer. So i did and guess what...nothing! Nothing happens. I took out the DVD, put it back in, rebooted to the DVD, reinstalled it again, restarted to nothing again, changed the bios boot settings, changed pretty much every possible setting I could think of and nothing. It just sits on the black screen with a flashing cursor in the top corner of the screen. i spent a lot of time on this site trying to track down others who may have experienced a similar problem but I've not yet come across any - and thus am starting a new topic (mind you it may be an old topic). any help on this one would be really appreciated. I'm running a DELL optiplex GX270 (P4 2.8 GHz with 1 GB of RAM and a IDE ATA 40 GB hard disk set to master with DVD-Rom set to slave on the same ATA cable.) please help. mw Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68393-os-x-10410-installed-but-will-not-boot/ Share on other sites
bibendum
When you use Disk Utility - make sure you format the disk MBR - Master Boot Record - if you just format GUID Partition table, or Apple Partition Map, you can install, etc, but it won't boot. It's under the Options... button under Partition... good luck, post back... MaxWonderful
Ok... I changed the parition to MBR under the options menu like you said. i only created the one partition... so i hope this works. I'll let you know in about 15 minutes.thanks for your lightning quick reply!!! i really appreciate it!mwOk... closer but still not working. Now it boots - i very quickly get a white background with the apple symbol in the middle and then the verbose starts up. It starts repainting the page blacker and blacker until i just get one line on the bottom of the monitor that states:Darwin kernel Version 8.10.1 : Wed May 23 16:33:00 PDT 2007: Sochi2014:Voteforus/Release_i386I can barely makeout the verbose text as it quickly repaints to black but it does same something about backtrace terminated - invalid frame pointer.anymore ideas???mwOk... i'm a little farther along...but not much.now i can boot to the Darwin/x86 and i get as far as the white background with the apple logo in the middle. but that's when the verbose text starts up and the screen keeps repainting itself blacker and blacker until all i can see is one line of text at the bottom which reads:Darwin kernel version: 8.10.1: Wed May 23 16:33:00 PDT 2007; Sochi2014:Voteforus/RELEASE_i386It's hard to read the verbose because its gone so fast - but i can catch something about backtrace terminated - invalid frame pointer.anymore ideas would be great.mwOk... i'm a little farther along...but not much.now i can boot to the Darwin/x86 and i get as far as the white background with the apple logo in the middle. but that's when the verbose text starts up and the screen keeps repainting itself blacker and blacker until all i can see is one line of text at the bottom which reads:Darwin kernel version: 8.10.1: Wed May 23 16:33:00 PDT 2007; Sochi2014:Voteforus/RELEASE_i386It's hard to read the verbose because its gone so fast - but i can catch something about backtrace terminated - invalid frame pointer.anymore ideas would be great.mw Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68393-os-x-10410-installed-but-will-not-boot/#findComment-486379 Share on other sites
bibendum
That's a kernel panic - something is not good about your install. Which Install disk did you use? Try booting with in verbose mode (you get to add options when you startup - depending on your install, you either get to press F8 or any key to enter options). Try cpus=1 -v and watch where you get the error. post back, Patrick Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68393-os-x-10410-installed-but-will-not-boot/#findComment-486445 Share on other sites
MaxWonderful
I'm using the macdotnub OSx86 v1-r5 10.4.10 DVD iso. Ok... you're right. it's stopping at: panic(cpu 0 caller 0xoo1a4a55): unresolved kernel trap (CPU 0, Type 0=divide error), registers: CR0: ...bunch of error codes here Debugger called <panic> Backtrace, Fromat - Frame: Return Address (4 potential args on stack) 0x100ca8: ...bunch of more error codes here (...last one says) Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0x0 does this mean anything to you??? mw Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68393-os-x-10410-installed-but-will-not-boot/#findComment-486473 Share on other sites
Mike76
Just a note... I have the same hardware (GX270) and exactly the same symptoms that you have. PS: This GX270 is know working good with "JAS 10.4.8 AMD INTEL SSE2 SSE3". MaxWonderful
OK. Now i've installed OSX 10.4.8 JAS version... it installed fine, boots to the apple logo but then i get a black transparent box that says I need to shutdown my computer. It says: You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for serveral seconds or press the restart button. I've now restarted about six times. It keeps happenning... Any ideas guys? mw Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68393-os-x-10410-installed-but-will-not-boot/#findComment-488781 Share on other sites
lostking830
I'm on a HP m8020n and I get the same error with the Jas release. I reboot and the same transparent black screen pops up. I also tried the mac.nub release. I get through installation fine, but after I restart and the white mac screen is done loading it goes to a light blue screen and nothing happens. I've searched for both problems on the forum but I cant seem to find any solutions. I am running with an Intel Core 2 6420, ASUS P5LP-LE Mobo, ICH7DH chipset, 320 gig sata hdd, and a 8800 GTS 640 mb. I am not sure what my next step should be so I would be eternally greatful if someone could point me in the right direction. MaxWonderful
I've had no luck what-so-ever with SATA drives. The farthest i can get is with a DELL GX270 Optiplex (with an add-in nVidia MX440 vid card, everything else is built onto the board). I can install the OS.. but then when it boots i get the restart your computer {censored} in four separate languages forevermore. Oh boy!!! As fate would have it... i just went through the whole process again and it STILL DOESN'T WORK. Yippee. I reformatted the drive using Disk Utility (with Master Boot Record checked). I was able to install using the DVD-ROM. After rebooting, I got the same results you stated above (White Background with Apple Symbol, then Verbose setup, then blacker and blacker with Darwin Kernel message at bottom of the screen flashing). However, I am running Myzar 10.4.6 and Windows XP on the same machine (Dell Optiplex GX-260) on a different Hard Drive. I'm going to try installing Myzar 10.4.6 and then upgrading to MacDotNub 10.4.10. I'll let you know how it goes. UPDATE: I tried installing Myzar 10.4.6 on the new Hard Drive (worked flawlessly -- of course!). After I booted in Mac OS X, I put the MacDotNub 10.4.10 DVD-ROM and tried to install the Upgrade. After rebooting, I got exactly the same error as above. My Dell Optiplex GX-260 supports SSE and SSE2 but not SSE3. I wonder if this is causing the Kernel Panics. For now, I'm going to stick with my old standby, Myzar 10.4.6. --danyel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68393-os-x-10410-installed-but-will-not-boot/#findComment-490297 Share on other sites
MaxWonderful
Well - i finally threw the GX270 out the window... and it actually made a pretty cool sound when it hit the concrete. I totally should have recorded it for future viewing. But.... the good news is I grabbed a GX280 - and was successful on the first attempt with the JaS 10.4.8 iso. It lives!!! But... the bad news is it doesn't seem to like my network card - so i can't access the internet at all!!! HELP!!! is this fixable? I just three in an old trusty 3com nic card but it does'nt seem to recognize that either! Is there something I'm missing here? HELP! mw Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68393-os-x-10410-installed-but-will-not-boot/#findComment-490721 Share on other sites
OSXtotheZ
I have same problem as original post. I have a Intel 945GNT mobo with SATA 200gb and 40GB IDE. I did a clean wipe of the SATA 200gb making 2 partitions with MBR option. I installed macdotnub_OSx86_10.4.10_Install_Disk-v1-r5.iso everything went smooth far as I can tell but after replacing AppleHDA.kext (for sound) and repairing permisions and rebooting it goes to black screen with cursor "_" flashing. I since unhooked the other IDE drive and just have the SATA and DVD-R drive (IDE) just in case there was some boot confusion but it still does the same thing. My Bios setting are default (SATA set to IDE not AHCI). Any clues to whats happening. Previously this SATA had 10.4.6 running no problem. thanks. testpilot
Hi, I am just a noobie, but I did find or remembered from elsewhere to set the partition as 'Active', I have the JAS 10.4.6 version installed to a USB HD, and went through a few reinstalls before the bell-rang....ding....(rest is censored)... I used Acronis to set the partition as active, and the next boot went A1-OK.... My prob is trying to get NIC and Sound to work (Intel D946GZIS mobo, builtin PRO/100 VE network card and Sound) I need to find IO80211.kext for 10.4.5... However, OSX it is...I am a convert!! OSXtotheZ
I finally got my 10.4.10 macdotnub install working and booting properly. Here is my set up • Intel 945GNTLR motherboard • 4gb of DDR2 • Pentium 940D • 200gb SATA • DriveDVD-RW IDE Drive If you'd like to see what options I checked unchecked see screen cap below. Also One thing I did that I think helped was to do a clean format/partition using the diskutil off the macdotnub installer I selected partition and set to 1 and then option MBR. On the ECS board it cause it to go from blinking cursor at boot to kernel panic which is an improvement if you ask me. *Note I tried same install in ECS 945GCT with Core2duo E6320 and I got Kernel Panic on reboot. Install went fine and -v reboot says Unresloved Kernel Trap...blah blah Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer. Gonna try different kernels see if it fixes. Oh I should note some things that needed fixing. • Sound-- fixed with older AppleHDA.kext from previous 10.4.6 install • Networking-- fixed with IONETWORKING.kext previous 10.4.6 install • System Profiler reports some wrong or missing info like Ram is not accurately reported • Core and QE are good.
