Hi!

I'm sorry if i'm the 1000th person to post these questions, but i can't seem to find answers to them all, so i thought of starting a new thread.

I have a Macbook and a PC, with this setup:

Motherboard: Asus P5K (no more, no less (vanilla?))

CPU: Intel Quad Core Q6600

Seagate Barracuda SATA-2 disk

I read someplace that i need to change the sata mode to AHCI, but this board doens't allow it, so i have to downgrade it right?

Isn't it possible to use my SATA disk without fussing around with the bios version?

Thanks guys!

no downgrade

1st check this:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=68352&hl=

mine is p5k premium but check your primary sata device id though windows (i have 2920,some models have 2921 etc)

for me jmicron is enabled in bios ,all disks are set to IDE and in mac i have ide+sata disks work ok

but you will need a SATA DVD to install or via vmware (if you plan to boot with an IDE DVD you will get "com.info.bootplist not found ,, ,,"

this you cannot avoid even with downgrade i think

as long as i know /tried with p5k yes ,you can't boot from an ide DVD

you can't either reach the darwin loader ,you are stuck in the message "com.apple.bootplist not found"

is is mentioned about the p5k (and other p35 boards with jmicron)

after the installation you can fix everything as i say in the link

but for the installation the jmicron controller must be disabled

and if its disabled forget everything on IDE cables (disks, dvd)

vmware was allways possible

but it's a big mesh its not like do this then this and you are ready

there are some guides in the forum i used last year for that reason

so you have 3 options:

1)buy sata drive

2)install through vmware and then reboot natively on the disk you fully installed osx

3)watch that thread that this guy opened ,maybe somebody answer him

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=68399&hl=

(i was looking for the same thing as he before i buy the sata drive)

EDIT: here's the link for vmware: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...c=11314&hl=

So, i have the drives installed.

SATA is set to enhanced mode, and jmicron chipset is set to ahci.

I haven't downgraded the bios.

2 Problems:

- LAN doesn't work (i can fix that with a realtek nic right?)

- Disk Performance is awfull!

I think the second problem is sata related, how can i fix it? <_<

Thanks!

Also, it olnly detects 128GB of disk, from the 500Gb.

:s

I have the same problem with ASUS P5K.

- 500GB disk detected as 128GB

- Poor disk performance

My BIOS's date is 07/03/07 version 0603

Do I have to up/downgrade my BIOS?

Btw. I was able to boot with my old ATA DVD-RW putting it into an external USB rack.

Thanks to darwin form osx86scene, following is working too:

darwin figured out, that we can flash the newest P5KR Bios (support for new 45nm CPUs AND AHCI)

Just use "AFUDOS /N /I<biosname>"

IMPORTANT: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

Thanks to darwin! It's working great for me!

I have also flashed my P5K with the version 403 PK5R Bios using the /N option for AFUDOS and am running stable without any kernel panic for over 2 weeks. However, I also have added maxmem=3072 on my box, which has 4 gig of ram. I have also upgraded my 6600GT to a 8600GTS, which has also resolve lots of weird problems with the screen blanking after a few seconds of OpenGL action. So there is definitely a quirk in the OpenGL drivers nvinject for the 6600GT, or maybe it was the fact that it was a BFG board. My new 8600GTS is also a BFG brand, but this time it is really stable and fast. I have to say that I did not believe that I would be keeping my Hackintosh, but the more I use it, the more I want to purchase Apple hardware. If only Apple had something in between a MacMini (or at least a Mini with a decent 3D chip) and their 3K$ desktop...
