N!CK
I am ordering a new Vostro from Dell, it's a pretty rock solid machine and has specs closest to the MBP. I have one Question though of my 2 choices for the Intel PRO wireless 3945, the Dell 1390, or the dell 1490... I know on one system i did i got a Intel PRO card running out of the box no problems, but i dont remember which model... If any one is interested these are the specs configured for 934USD Vostro 1500 Core2Duo T7250 2.0GhZ 1.5 GB 667MhZ DDR2 160GB HDD One of the above wireless cards nVidia 8600M (like the MBP ) Standard one year warrenty Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/68072-the-best-m-pci-wireless-card/ Share on other sites

Azurael
No. The 1500 is Dell's draft-N card, which is pretty much identical to the genuine Airport card in C2D Macs. It works like a real airport card in OS X. I don't know of any other Mini-PCIe card other than that and the real Apple cards that work properly. Mini-PCI was easy because BCM4306 cards are plentiful and all work in machines without software killswitches. Mind you, the 8600 won't work at the moment anyway, so it's pretty moot. N!CK
Okay, im not too worried about the 8600 right now i'm putting leopard on it straight away though... If that doesnt work ill just stick tiger on it. As for the 1500 they dont list one, just a 1505 its N so i take it its similar, or is it? Azurael
Seems to be a Broadcom chip: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-Dell-Wireless-15...VQQcmdZViewItem I don't know though... If it's still a BCM4311, it should work, but there's no guarantees in that case. Azurael
Hangon... I got confused. BCM4311 is the chip on the 1490, not the 1500/1505 - sorry... It might work though. OS X uses the same driver for all the different Broadcom chips it supports.
