Pazu
Hello guys, I currently own a Macbook Core Duo 2.0GHz (SuperDrive, 60GB HDD, 2GB RAM). As you could guess, it's becoming rapidly dated, and the urge to buy a more powerful machine is getting more and more irresistible as time goes by. I've changed jobs since I bought this macbook, and I no longer need the mobility it provides (it doesn't hurt, however), so I started thinking about selling the little guy while I can still get some value from it and build a new desktop with the money1. After using Mac OS X for an year and a half, the idea of abandoning it scares me to hell, however -- so I remembered OSx86. How's the current state of Mac OS X on non-Apple machines? Can I build a machine today and run a recent version of OS X without too much hassle? What kind of problems should I expect? Right now I'm considering an Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 based system, with a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboard and standard SATA optical and hard disk drives. I haven't decided on video card yet (Radeon X1900? GeForce 8800?). What are the most recommended hardware parts? Sorry for the large number of questions, and many thanks in advance. 1: No, buying an iMac is not really an option. One of the reasons I'm considering a new desktop is added flexibility and easily replacing parts, something I can't really do with an iMac. And Mac Pros are way too expensive. abhi262
its pretty smooth now if you have QE and CI installed. that can be a bit of a hassle if you don't have a popular card (so that means no to a x1950 which i have) but the x1900 looks good. also, intel is a good choice for your CPU, SATA works from my experience well but the final thing to worry about is your sound. it can be hard to get a sound card to work so i reccommend a soundblaster live external, they work out of te box despite the fact that box says for windows only. wireless internet can be a problem in terms of driver availability but wired network work perfect so are a good alternative. socal swimmer
hey I am preparing to do something similar. I want a good computer for games, but I don't have much money. Mac OS X is a must. here is the system (as it stands now) that i am planning on building: -C2D e6750 (overclock to 3.2GHz hopefully) -GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R motherboard. This is a newer chipset than the 965 (which I was planning on getting before) and only a little more expensive. Plus, it supports faster memory and the new processors coming out next year (for what its worth). -Sapphire X1950XT video card. This thread shows that it fully works (and how to get it working) in 10.4.8, 10.4.10, and 10.5 (Qe/CI/dvi/dual monitor/resolution/etc all works). When I do it myself, I will tell you how it goes. -CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 -BenQ dvd burner. $745 total, with a free HDD from my dad. -and the most important part, Antec Sonata 3 case, with 500watt power supply included. It looks like they got the geforce 8800 working to some extent (fully?). info in this thread. To get info on compatibility etc., use google and type in "insanelymac <whatever you want info on>" I hope this helps. Good luck and report back on how it goes! I will be building mine either next month or the month after depending on whether I spend my own money or not. probably next month (ie a few days) because I am tired of waiting. candykane
I will warn you a hackintosh is not a mac. its more like a windows machine.every time you up grade there is a chance your system will crash and you could lose all your data. so you don't update it ever untill you are 100% sure what to do. Also loads of systems dont support sleep mode. sound well you get sterio sound and sound in thats it. dont get angry if you dont succed in the first time of installing. Wel for the rest it works i got a 1900xtx and it works great! via jccool driver it worked like a charm. but if you are buying new maby you sould take a look @ the ati X2x00 series. hardware blueray decoding ) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/67837-from-real-macs-to-osx86/#findComment-483404 Share on other sites
