So I ordered my new iMac and iPod Touch over a month ago, paid up front and was promised delivery in 3-5 days. I'm still waiting.

When I first used the order tracking function of the website I was rather shocked to discover that I could expect delivery on November 5th! F :( that! So I called them and explained to them how I need my new Mac for my studies at University. The Apple representative first off tried saying that the 3-5 days was an estimate only, to which I argued that it doesn't say that anywhere on their store. His next excuse was that it was "Chinese Golden Week" that particular week, and so they were still processing a huge backlog of orders. Well, they should have thought about that beforehand and placed a notice about the expected delays on the store. After a good long rant I managed to get some free JBL speakers added to my order :dev:

Next, I checked the order tracker the following week and was pleasently surprised to find they'd moved the delivery date forward to October 26th, sweet! I make arrangements to be here to take delivery. A few days later I check the tracker again, this time it says delivery will be the 27th -.-' Ok, I change my arrangements again. I check back again the next day, and they've moved the delivery date forward three days to the 24th now! Ok, this is bugging me but I change my arrangements yet again and today, being the 24th, I've waited in all day eagerly awaiting that knock on the door that will unite me with my much-anticipated goodies.

The knock never came. So I just checked the tracker again today, and surprise surprise they've moved the delivery date back to the 26th again, which was updated early this morning. This is complete {censored}! I've waited in all day because they told me to expect delivery, and then they change the date on me at the last minute. I called them up, not a very happy bunny, and was told that the latest delay was caused by a shipping problem with a batch of iMacs from China to the UK, and thusfar my order hadn't arrived in Apple's UK warehouse, but I should still expect delivery on Friday.

So now I've gotta miss another day of lectures to wait in all day for a delivery which may or may not arrive. I thought everything on a Mac was supposed to "just work"? When it comes to delivery, apparently not.

I had a feeling it wouldn't be unique to Apple, and this is why I've started this thread, so that future new customers of theirs can have a somewhere to refer to if their deliveries go wrong.

The main thing I've learned from this experience is not to be soft with them. The Apple representatives seem very quick to make excuses, and they really do have a whole array of them! Perhaps they have a little note next to their computer screen with a list of today's fob-offs? Just stick to your guns, tell them you're not happy and threaten to cancel your order, they'll soon jump to it.

Most computer/parts companies I deal with will give you a delivery date on the order, even by their cheapest chipping mechanisms, and in my experince, the only reasons they ever miss those dates are down to the courier being incompetent...

I ordered my system directly from Apple, and it was their fault that they gave me an inaccurate delivery date, this is what my complaint was.

It doesn't get any better that after discovering the order tracker had once-again changed today, and calling them to find out what was going on, that I was told it would be delivered today and their system was showing it as being "en-route". It's now 7:30pm and still no delivery. Now I'm going to have to miss yet another day of University and wait in for them, which I really can't afford to do!
