keplenk
Hi all, I'm new here so please be easy on me =). First of all, I want to inform you that all of these stuff is new to me = Vmware/MacOSx/even Ubuntu commands =(. I just know stuff about windows 3.1 upto VIsta (Vista is when I lost trust with microsoft). I'm really eager to learn about other operating systems and I've spent 2 weeks already learning VMware and installing MacOSX 10.4.8 on it. So far, I successfully installed 10.4.8 in my Vaio laptop (except I only get 1024x786 resolution) using VMware Workstation 6. Moreover the Installation DVD I got has an update with it, the "JaS.10.4.9.Combo.Update.Intel.SSE3". This is when everything got complicated. After installing the update, I get kernel panics error. I've searched google for possible solutions and I found one from these forum =). So I followed the instructions with the backing up of extensions and kernels and stuff and the kernel panic error was gone but I got a new error "The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point." There was a point that I felt I was messing up with the commands like sudo -s .. cp /mach_kernel because it kept reporting "no such directory". I tried to manage on learning these commands (I only know DOS) and hoping that I got it right. One of the instructions was to download "mach_kernel" from IRC. I got all of them because I don't know what to use. HOwever, I believe that most logical "mach_kernel" to use is the 10.4.9 mach_kernel SSE3 (Since I have SSE3 CPU) Am I doing the right thing? Where did I go wrong? Can 10.4.9 update be installed in Vmware? Right now, I can't install it natively (I have some important stuff in my pc). Could you please help with a step-by-step guide in installing the 10.4.9 update using Vmware? Again 10.4.8 is currently installed with almost everything working (except the video resolution and usb). Please explain it to me like a 5-year old kid =) THank you very much. ~pcwiz
10.4.9 is not fully compatible with VMware (specifically the kernel). Install JaS without the update.
